Sorry, all evidence suggests that margins will expand not contract. China mobile and Docomo add over 800,000,000 new potential customers. They will more than "help"
They won't have to pullout $700.00. They will get money for their old iPhones. Also, Apple will provide the financing if the carriers stop providing them.
Recent FASB rules allow tech companies that sell software, or, in Apples case, Hardware that is bundled with software, to defer a portion of the sales revenue and realize the deferred portion ratably over 4-8 subsequent quarters. This is because theoretically software companies must support software with subsequent upgrades thus allowing for the deferral. The deferred revenue is theoretically realized as the the subsequent software support is provided. Currently, Apple has 8.9 billion in deferred revenues which basically will drop straight down to the bottom like when realized. That number will be much larger after last quarter is reported as Apple increased their deferral percentage on all hardware lines last quarter. This is something a company would do only if they were extremely confident they could meet their future guidance without the deferred revenues. It is the opposite of what companies who are having weak fundamentals would do; which is to reduce their deferrals to make their EPS number.
I see, so everyone should just wait around for years for Apple to buy-back shares? Please. With Apples free cash flow and ridiculous depression-era war chest they will be buying back shares from now to eternity.
Because the board works for the shareholders. They are about to find this out for the first time.
Agree. And that is why it is GREAT we have Icahn holding Cook and the Board's feet to the fire. I'm tired of these arrogant techie nerds.
With 9 billion (and probably more like 11 billion after last quarter) of deferred revenues sitting in a cookie jar for a rainy day Cook has all the ammo he needs to make any quarter a blowout. If Apple stock continues to languish whilst the company is doing great, investors will become increasingly more likely to back Icahn as they will continue to view Apple management as financially obtuse. Don't think for a minute that Cook doesn't know this. They don't want to lose investor confidence and give it to Icahn. It's very good for Apple shareholders that Icahn is in this stock.
For the last time, it's not a subsidy. It's financing at a very high rate. Apple could easily take a small part of its war chest and provide the same financing the carriers have been providing and offer MORE options and price levels to the consumer than the carriers have been providing. And, Apple will be making a 50% ROI on that money instead of the 1% they are earning now on their war chest.
He did what Jobs wouldn't do. He came out with a smaller tablet that Jobs said was DOA. That has been a huge success. And he will do the same with the iphone this year. Is that innovation, no. But, Apple was the first company to design and put a 64 bit chip in a smartphone and the first company to successfully execute on biometric identification. There will be new products this year with some new materials such as bendable gorilla glass. 2014 will be a great year for Apple.
By the way, what has Samscum done in the innovation department? A stupid watch that looks like a brick and doesn't sell, LOL?
I agree. It's always scary when you should be buying. There in no logic for this selling. Today's news is a report about Foxconn's executive's saying Apple will come out with TWO bigger iphone 6's. What is bad about that?
You are mistaking Apple with Google and Microsoft. Both of those companies actually did allow the NSA to put spyware in their devices. Apple did not.
This is OLD news. I expect that Apple is already #1 in China given the same trajectory of October. When THAT news hits the tape this month the stock should have a big pop upwards.
We know that DoCoMo did, in fact, have a great quarter with 73% of ALL new smart phone activations in Japan this quarter being iPhones. Don't forget that Apple took up iphone 5s production 75% after they gave guidance for the quarter. iPad air's have been selling beyond anyone's expectation and supply has been great. Apple is selling as many iPad airs as they are iPad mini retina's which were suppose to outsell air's by a large margin this quarter. Mac sales have been robust as well. This quarter will be a monster.
