  • Intel's Core i3 Still Trumps AMD's Budget Range

As expected, not a great deal has changed in the nine months since our original article. Intel's Core i3 range still trumps AMD's most affordable FX processor and the Skylake Core i3-6100 just cements that fact.

Anyone investing in one of Intel's budget Skylake processors isn't going to be spending big on their motherboard and being that the Core i3-6100 costs just $125, we suspect most will want to spend less than this on their board.

It's possible to pick up a Z170 motherboard for as little as $100, with several options priced between $100 and $120. Although H170 motherboards are $10 to $20 cheaper, we recommend avoiding them as they lack some key features that make the savings somewhat pointless. CPU overclocking is only offered by the Z170, though obviously this isn't a concern if you're buying the fully locked i3-6100, and nor is multi-GPU support.

For budget-conscious builders, H110 motherboards starting at around $60 will be hard to resist, especially considering they cost almost half as much as the cheapest Z170 motherboard. Feature-wise, the H110 is even leaner than the H170, forgoing M.2 support for instance, but how many budget builders aren't going to be happy with a 2.5" SATA SSD?

AMD has NO LEAD in HBM2, NVIDIA PASCAL will have it first, AMD's HBM1 is a expensive experiment that is a waste of bandwidth and 4K INFERIOR due to ONLY HAVING 4GB of memory, HBM2 and NVIDIA will fix all that with PASCAL.

AMD’s most over hyped graphics card releases in nearly a year amounted to a lowly 0.8 percent increase in add-in board market share.

AMD continues to shed assets in advance of its January 22nd earnings announcement: first it was employees, and now it is mobile graphics technology. AMD announced Tuesday that it's selling its handheld GPU technology, along with some of the handheld unit's employees, to Qualcomm for $65 million. OUCH! ANOTHER MASSIVE AMD BLUNDER BUST!

  • Nvidia released third-fiscal quarter earnings today that beat Wall Street’s expectations. The world’s biggest standalone graphics chip maker reported that its revenue and earnings both exceeded expectations.

The non-GAAP earnings were 46 cents per diluted share on revenues of $1.3 billion for the third-fiscal quarter ended October 25, versus previous consensus estimates of 25 cents per share on revenues of $1.18 billion. Q3 earnings were up 18 percent year over year, while revenues were up 7 percent.

NVIDIA saw great gains in GPU sales, which are the bulk of the company. GPU based revenue was up 12% year-over-year and up 16% over last quarter, with gaming GPU revenue up 40% over last year, and now sits at record levels.

During Q3 2016, NVIDIA paid back $53 million in dividends to shareholders and bought back 4.6 million shares. Their goal for FY 2016 is to repay $800 million, and through three quarters, they are now at $604 million. NVIDIA is planning on paying approximately $1.0 billion to shareholders for their next fiscal year.

Breaking down the numbers a bit more, NVIDIA has seen big growth in the gaming segment, with revenues increasing from $468 million since Q1 FY 2015 to $761 million this quarter. Year-over-year, the gaming market has grown 44%, at a time when the PC industry as a whole has contracted. PC gaming appears to be alive and well.

  • Conclusion

Steamroller/Carrizo APUs cannot change AMD's fate, even in this generation. The relative CPU improvement is similar to what Skylake is showing at the same TDP while the GPU comparison looks worse than expected. Intel HD Graphics Gen9 has improved graphics performance at a major rate compared to AMD, tipping the balance towards its favor.

AMD has obviously achieved good results, reducing the TDP by 20% and improving performances, but Intel HD Graphics simply grew much more. If we also consider Intel's eDRAM solutions, INTC clearly owns the medium- and high-performance segments without any doubts.

AMD has no chance of achieving relevant market share, and it will continue to register losses in the laptop and desktop segment through 2016. There is still little hope for the Zen architecture since the last cash infusion will permit AMD to release it in 2017, but if we consider AMD's claims and Intel's potential for the following years, it is frankly really hard to see the Sunnyvale company living better times in future. Even the chance to see Apple's devices running AMD's SoCs looks quite unlikely to happen.

In any case, I do not exclude that Apple is evaluating this route, but at the same time AAPL is evaluating Intel to build future modems and application processors to power its iPhones and iPads. Moreover, if Intel maintains its performance per watt leadership, Apple is unlikely to turn down the faster solution, no matter the price. The entry level Mac line would be the only segment where a slower AMD APU would make sense, but Intel would still provide a probably more suitable solution, given the upcoming 10nm Cannonlake.

The actual scenario makes Intel a solid and consistent long-term buy with a very good potential in many fields. For what concerns AMD, with the recent cash infusion, it could be an object of some speculation, but it is a stock I would not consider to invest in now. AMD is more likely to be acquired or go bankrupt in the following year

Larrabee must of given you a lobotomy because Larrabee = Knights Ferry = Xeon Phi = MASSIVE Sales and Profits unlike DEBT DOOMED AMD.

Intel Many Integrated Core Architecture or Intel MIC (pronounced Mick or Mike[1]) is a coprocessor computer architecture developed by Intel incorporating earlier work on the Larrabee many core architecture, the Teraflops Research Chip multicore chip research project, and the Intel Single-chip Cloud Computer multicore microprocessor.

Prototype products codenamed Knights Ferry were announced and released to developers in 2010. The Knights Corner product was announced in 2011 and uses a 22 nm process. A second generation product codenamed Knights Landing using a 14 nm process was announced in June 2013.

In September 2011, the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) announced it would use Knights Corner cards in their 10 petaFLOPS "Stampede" supercomputer, providing 8 petaFLOPS of computing power.

At the International Supercomputing Conference (2012, Hamburg), Intel announced the branding of the processor product family as Intel Xeon Phi.[2]

In November 2012, Intel formally announced the first products citing claims of CPU-like versatile programmability, high performance and power efficiency.[3] The Green 500 list placed a system using these new products as the most power efficient computer in the world.[4]

In June 2013, the Tianhe-2 supercomputer at the National Supercomputing Center in Guangzhou (NSCC-GZ) was announced[5] as the world's fastest supercomputer. It utilizes Intel Xeon Phi coprocessors and Ivy Bridge-EP Xeon processors to achieve 33.86 petaFLOPS

    The AMDOOMING Facts

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.. The company also gets F’s in sales growth, operating margin growth, earnings revisions, and earnings surprise.

  • NVIDIA, a Gaming Leader

High-end PC gaming has traditionally been the field of desktop PCs. But nowadays, it has become more viable to attach ultra-fast processors and graphic cards into smaller, more thermally forced laptops.

According to a report from NVIDIA, the market for gaming notebooks has been mounting swiftly. Customers prefer to buy a laptop judging by screen size, and quality of GPU. And NVIDIA dominates the gaming laptop sector.

NVIDIA’s current Maxwell graphics architecture is a lot more powerful than AMD’s Graphics Core Next architecture. The company’s incompetence to fend off its rival will prove costly in the long-run, which is why I think betting on AMD’s turnaround isn’t a smart move.

The threat of increasing competition makes AMD a very, very risky bet. The company may have performed nicely in the last month, but its upwards trajectory is unlikely to continue. Given the better quality products of its peers, I think AMD will continue losing market share.
