Apple, Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) may not have a huge share of the broader Chinese smartphone market (yet), but there is one area where the company is seeing some success.
CultofMac, citing data from analytics firm Umeng, commented that Apple holds about 80 percent of the high-end smartphone market in China. The segment accounts for those spending $500 or more on their devices.
Umeng said there are about 190 million high-end smartphone customers in China, out of 700 million total.
Jailbroken phones in China has fallen from 30 percent down to 13 percent as consumers realize the greater risks of jailbroken devices.
Data is derived from real-world usage versus shipments.
Apple Inc (AAPL) First Quarter Performance a Disaster? Analysts Warns of Stock Crashing
By Reissa Su | March 14, 2014 6:53 PM EST
Apple Inc is on its way to a 'disastrous' first quarter for Fiscal Year 2014 as analyst Brian Blair of Wedge Partners delivers the bad news about the company's Q1 performance. According to Mr Blair, Apple may be having a bad first quarter. He warned investors that Apple's stock could crash after the company releases its first quarter earnings.
Mr Blair blames Apple Inc's continued slowdown in the smartphone market with no low-end product to compete in emerging markets where cheaper Android phones have become popular. The cheaper iPhone 5C, according to Mr Blair, only has a "soft" demand compared to its premium cousin the iPhone 5S. Another reason to expect a disastrous first quarter for Apple is the low expectation of a new product and a phone upgrade.
The analyst also mentioned lofty expectations for iPhone sales in China Mobile. The closing of the China Mobile deal is Apple Inc's key to gain entry to the largest handset market in the world where rival Samsung has long dominated by selling Android phones. The deal will also benefit China Mobile to attract high-end subscribers to its new 4G network.
Despite what Mr Blair perceives as bad news for Apple Inc, the expected stock crash may be good news for the company after all. The low stock price may trigger a buying opportunity since rumours have been circulating that Apple is about to release innovative products that may send the company's stock rising again.
Apple Inc CEO Tim Cook is looking forward to "big plans" in 2014 as Apple is expected to revamp its product line. Mr Cook has previously assured everyone working for Apple that the company has shown its "breadth and depth of innovation" in 2013 and extended its lead in the smartphone market with the success of the iPhone 5S. The past year also marked the year the App Store has reached 50 billion downloads which Mr Cook said was

Apple, Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) was granted approval by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for its latest patent, which hints that the tech giant could be moving further into the wearables segment.
Abstract of the patent reads as follows:
In some implementations, optimizations for detecting steps when a pedometer is worn at a user's wrist are described. In some implementations, a threshold crossing step detection method can be enhanced for wrist locations by counting the number of positive peaks between comparison threshold crossings, adjusting a minimum peak-to-peak threshold for qualifying threshold crossings, and inferring a second step based on the amount of time between threshold crossings. In some implementations, the pedometer can automatically determine that the pedometer is being worn on a user's wrist ... Particular implementations provide at least the following advantages: Users can receive accurate step counts when the pedometer is worn at the wrist. Distance estimation can be improved based on more accurate step counts. Users do not have to specify where the pedometer is being worn.
The patent suggests that Apple will go ahead with its rumored 'iWatch' smartwatch soon, though nothing is set in stone yet.

Market Outlook The bulls are in full control. The negative sentiment that led to the last bearish pattern has evaporated. The current price is quite distant from the confirmation level, so the probability of a bearish confirmation is very low. Besides, the signal is suggesting to STAY LONG. It is best to follow the signal and continue to hold this security. The Delayed Intraday Module is OFF. Stop Loss $532.64.

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) supplier Hon Hai Precision Industry – also known as Foxconn – has initiated a major recruitment drive in Taiwan as it seeks to add 15,000 employees to its workforce of over 1 million, reports Reuters. According to Chu Wen-min, a Hon Hai Precision Industry spokesperson cited by Reuters, the company is looking to fill job positions related to 4G networks, cloud services, and e-commerce.
Hon Hai is perhaps best known as the primary manufacturer of Apple’s iPad and iPhone products. According to Apple’s latest supplier list, the tech company used twenty-nine separate Hon Hai facilities for the manufacturing of its various products in 2014. However, Hon Hai is the biggest contract electronics assembler in the world and also makes products for many other tech companies, including Hewlett-Packard (NYSE:HPQ) and Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN). According to BlackBerry’s (NASDAQ:BBRY) fiscal 2014 third-quarter results, Hon Hai also recently entered into a five-year strategic partnership with the company. Under the partnership, Hon Hai will “jointly develop and manufacture certain new BlackBerry devices and manage the inventory associated with those devices.”

Goldman Comments on Rumors Apple (AAPL) Plans to Accelerate Product Cycles
March 7, 2014 2:08 PM EST Send to a Friend
This week's Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) news included an official announcement on CarPlay and rumors the company was hiring engineers in Asia to accelerate product cycles. Analyst Bill Shope of Goldman Sachs commented on developments.
“Smart, connected cars have been a growing theme, and Apple has teased its concept for years. Now that the company has built the relationships with car makers, refined Siri, and strengthened its maps functionality, it appears 2014 could be the year forCarPlay. Since CarPlay requires an iPhone to work, we see this as being complimentary to the existing ecosystem, as it should enhance the user experience and stickiness of current users. According to the release, CarPlay will work with select third-party audio apps too, so it will be interesting to see if CarPlay is developed as a platform in its own right over time," said Shope.
On rumors of hiring in Asia, Shope said, "The annual product cycle of the iPhone creates substantial seasonal volatility. This being Apple’s largest business segment by far, we have long believed that the company may opt to reduce these seasonal fluctuations by shortening the product cycle. For example, the company could have one major annual refresh and one minor mid-year refresh, as we’ve seen with the iPad. While for a long time it was not clear whether this would become Apple’s strategy with the iPhone, these hires appear to suggest that the company may be moving in this direction."
Goldman Sachs has a Buy rating on Apple with a price target of $610.00
