  • Apple has a gap problem in this area. They are rated third behind Pandora in the music business. Must be humbling for Apple's CEO ?

Smart Money is still invested and banking on Pandora's future. What they have works best, thats why it is still #1 over Apple #3.

  • ?...(wonder how or if this worked out.)

Tech giant Google and leading internet radio service Pandora will focus on building their services into automobiles in 2014.
Automobiles represent a big opportunity for tech companies and internet-based services, as Google and Pandora well know; they'll start tapping into the auto industry this year.
Google, in collaboration with automotive leaders, recently announced the Open Automotive Alliance (OAA). This organization allows Google to develop Android-based in-car entertainment and information systems for key players in auto industry, including Audi, Honda and Hyundai.

  • Are they getting your shares today?

  • That would be very good.

  • Pandora Media Inc (NYSE: P) is unlikely to be acquired at least until royalty negotiations are completed, an analyst said Thursday.

"I'd be surprise anybody would acquire it with all that uncertainty," Barrington Research's Jeff Houston told Benzinga.

Benzinga asked Houston about unconfirmed speculation that rapper Jay-Z might make a bid on Pandora.

Pandora has a market capitalization of $3.49 billion

"I'm not too familiar with Jay-Z," Houston said. "But yeah, if he's got the cash, then he could certainly make an offer."

Google Inc (NASDAQ: GOOGL), Facebook Inc (NASDAQ: FB) and Sirius XM Holdings Inc. have previously been mentioned as potential Pandora buyers, Houston said.

Shares of Pandora trade recently at $16.63, up 8.4 percent.

In a report rolled out Thursday morning, MKM Partners' Managing Director Rob Sanderson reiterated a Buy rating and a $23 price target on Pandora Media Inc (NYSE: P).

Sanderson declared he is "incrementally bullish" on the company following its investor day hosted last week.

"While the stock story remains overhung by content cost uncertainty," the firm's analysts think "views are lopsidedly negative and expect objectivity will return as the CRB decision draws nearer.

"The pathways to listener/audience growth and value of the platform to music-makers are under-appreciated opportunities," they added.

    Opportunity For Audience Growth

The report highlighted two main points in this field:

More than 100 million -- of the more than 250 million registered -- accounts used the service in the past three months. However, the firm believes that the company "can drive millions of semi-active listeners into the monthly count with simple notifications."

Although Pandora's overall share of radio listening is high, its share in the car isn't. With OEMs increasingly integrating the service "the car replacement cycle will drive deeper penetration (and share) in the car. There are 120mn FM-radio listeners that are not on Internet radio."

    Value To Music Makers

According to recent studies conducted by Pandora, the service can drive significant growth in concert ticket sales and album sales.

"On a Skrillex/ Diplo promotion, P generated 60k station additions in 10-days with a 12% click-through to Ticketmaster. This drove over 7,200 ticket sales to MSG, a venue with 18,200 seating capacity. This is a huge market at $6.1Bn in 2014. Incremental ticket sales are 100% margin."

"On a Jack White promotion, P generated 720k station adds in one-week, half that artist's global base of Facebook followers. After this promotion and a MSG

Good growth story for the company. This will create a way to monetize their product. imho

Several key valuation drivers from the company's Analyst Day presentation.

    1. Pandora articulated that a key strategic focus over the next five years is to further expand internationally. However, the strategy likely cannot be executed before the CRB decision in the U.S. is final in the fourth quarter 2015.

    2. Pandora works well alone but has not historically worked well to create economic upside for others in the music system. The company's new CEO Brian McAndrews appears to be bring a "more collaborative philosophy" and spending money to make the company more responsible for its role in the music ecosystem.

    3. Pandora implied that faster EBITDA and earnings per share growth will be a "higher priority" than it has been in the past.

    4. Perhaps the biggest upside surprise was the depth of the company's management team who were "impressive, although no doubt expensive."

    5. Positive valuation drivers include higher U.S. listener targets of 100 million, up from 80 million in the fourth quarter 2014, and 30 hours per month per listener, up from 22 hours.

  • In a report published Monday, Needham analyst Laura Martin commented on Pandora Media Inc.'s (NYSE: P) Analyst Day that detailed three new strategies that could result in upside valuation if they are well executed.

Martin noted that the strategies focus on international expansion, closer relationships with artists and music labels, and a drive towards better profitability metrics.

Martin further added several key valuation drivers from the company's Analyst Day presentation.

Shares remain Buy rated with a $20 price target.
