Stem Cells Treat Multiple Sclerosis in Mice
BY MAGGIE FOX
Human embryonic stem cells — the body’s powerful master cells — might be useful for treating multiple sclerosis, researchers reported Thursday.
A team has used cells taken from frozen human embryos and transformed them into a type of cell that scientists have hoped might help treat patients with MS, a debilitating nerve disease.
Mice with an induced version of MS that paralyzed them were able to walk freely after the treatment, the team at Advanced Cell Technology reported.
The cells appeared to travel to the damaged tissues in the mice, toning down the mistaken immune system response that strips the fatty protective layer off of nerve calls. It’s that damage that causes symptoms ranging from tremors and loss of balance to blurry vision and paralysis.
These embryonic stem cells were carefully nurtured to make them form a type of immature cell called a mesenchymal stem cell. These cells worked better to treat the mice than naturally developed mesenchymal stem cells taken directly from bone marrow, the team wrote in the journal Stem Cell Reports, published by the International Society for Stem Cell Research.
Lanza says human trials are many months away, but he thinks it will not be necessary to use controversial cloning technology to make perfectly matched human embryonic stem cells to treat patients.
He said SELL, SELL, SELL. That was my clue to BUY, BUY, BUY.
Just heard a quick promo for Dr. Oz where they will be talking about the fact that science now may have the answer to greatly restore sight. Anybody else saw it? Could they be talking about ACTC 400/20 to 40/20??
You have the right idea BUT the quote should be:
That's one small step for man, one giant step for MannKind"
who checks articles written in the motley fool? The latest article from motley fool has erroneous facts. The author mentions that huntsman is now $41.83 . The price is $18.74. Where did he get $41.83?.
The new stock offering is scheduled to go for $10.72/share. Right now the market price is $10.35/shr. Will the offering be lowered to the market price or will the market price move up to the $10.72 offering ? How does that work?
The answer is NO. Since the moneys you funded your IRA are pre-tax dollars (in otherwords you did not pay taxes on the money) you cannot now use it as a tax writeoff. I am not an acountant so if there is anyone out there who knows otherwise, I and a lot of other investors would like to know.
Thank you, Adam. When your theory first came out it did not sound logical. But after some DD I realized that you had something. Based on that article I decided to hedge and sold half from which I made a decent profit. I kept the other half on the basis of other analysts articles(ie Seeking Alpha). Today as you predicted,it tanked and I lost all of my previous gains but thanks to you I am almost even. Lessons learned: None. I will still gamble on these type of situations but on a much smaller scale.
