agree with the metaphor, but it's more a pig than a tiger..

  • asdfhsdkjfh342 asdfhsdkjfh342 Apr 2, 2014 7:10 PM Flag

    exactly.. that baffles me
it is amazing how deep entrenched bad behaviors (stealing vs honesty, or shortsightedness vs long term views) can impact a country

you see that all the time at people level, but sometimes you can see the "national attitude" reflected so well in some of these events..

imo adam smith had asked the question you mentioned in a rhetorical way, he was fairly politically correct for his times..
but if he lived today, he could have used india as an example of silly behavior
their short term thievery is gonna hurt their future in ways they can't even begin to imagine

but that's ok i guess.. they are used to being poor and harping on that one note string..

how much of that is caused by their own attitude? imo a large percentage - as we can see in this example

in the end nok is just gonna come out with some wasted time and maybe a bit of money loss, but what india looses can't be put back in a century

  • while on the other side they trying to steal with both hands by retroactively changing tax laws and trying to rip-off successful companies that happen to set shop there..

it speaks volumes imo about the "business culture" in india

and it sets india for major failures moving forward in attracting big capital investments

it is that kind of small #$%$ mentality
a small #$%$ will try to steal something no matter how small now, even though that can destroy their future chance to do any business in the future
that mentality can destroy people and sometimes nations

because india may eventually steal a few hundred millions from nok and a few hundred millions from vodafone and same from ibm/etc

but in the long term, they will loose billions in future capital inflows

just curious if somebody in the high courts of india still has the head on their shoulders and a straight spine, or all are busy kissing the #$%$ of the big dogs in power while destroying that poor country...

sounds like a plan.. elop is da' man peeps, check it out..

    now according to elop's traditional approach/strategy :
1 - he'll send all microsoft a "platform burning" note
2 - through brilliant strategic moves he'll have msft slide from $30 to $1.5
3 - sell microsoft to boston chicken (his previous employer before msft)
4 - move at boston chicken as vice-precedent in charge of the msft chicks (he'll put the "vice" in "vice-precedent" once again.. )

yeah.. i also tried making music - and eventual money.. but lady gaga implemented faster most of my ideas..
    ..the first comer advantage..

..ah well.. i'll try making money selling my digital services in north korea (for a certain fee i'll show my digits to president kim during his global sales conference)

  • asdfhsdkjfh342 asdfhsdkjfh342 Apr 1, 2014 1:07 AM Flag

it's cheaper for the boy-soldier-kim to impress his peeps by shooting a few rounds in the ocean than spending the already tight government assets on bread..

to quote his holiness The KOOK (Kim-Our-Otherwise-amazing-Konductor) at the XXiXth congress of the nkorean communist party :

" ' artillery rounds and circus" ' is what we'll use until we'll completely annihilate those capitalist pigs flying south of the border in their luxurious jets and eating fresh rice and fish-balls, while we are working hard to build the path to communism and an even more equal equality, while eating kimchee and breathing our ancestors fresh, natural air, on a daily basis"

to penetrate the ghanaese market they need at least 10 inch, man..

as per latest nokia marketing plan, the [phone] size distribution per region is:
    - 7-9 inch for the us market
    - 6 inch for the european market (with italy an exception at 5.5inch :) )
    - 4 inch for the chinese market
    - 3 inch for the indian market..

for the indian market nokia is preparing a special edition of the 3 incher, called

    the in-visi-xx ),( x

to satisfy all the requirements of that very demanding market

ind is a no biggies from a co pt of view
they can simply take it as a loss and deduct it from taxes next year, thus bumping the amount of hard hash they will declare next year.

just a bit of delayed gratification, but that's nothing compared to the great potential the company has, to sponsor a lavish lifestyle with yachts, summer to monaco and lots of 6packs around the help for 'dem investors, over the next few decades..

"will atrtact investors like bears to honey..."
hmmm...i don't like "bears" and "nok" in the same phrase.. so how about :

"will attract investors like bulls to a flower pasture" ? :)

all great points robert, the thing is those peeps have very short term, myopic views

they are mostly concerned abt how to steal something today, rather how their kids will live tomorrow (not to mention how some foreign to them and their family 10000 workers will survive if nok closes in india - they don't care about that at all)

the amount of dishonesty i got while interacting with them, both at national and individual level was unbearable (aka "lying in your face").

it is that kind of dishonesty and poor business sense that made me bid farewell to india or any indian related business long ago and i've done much better since.

  • i believed the girl raped in the bus was an abominable thing that could never happen between humans..

..only to see now the equivalent of that happening at the business level, going against nok.
nok which had created tens of thousands of jobs in india, had produced cheaper phones so indian people can afford one..

how does the business community in india allow for this to happen?
are they aware of the execrable impact it has on the future of investment in india?

we'll find that out soon enough.

    Dorian is an idiot

    by screeminee Mar 7, 2014 4:11 PM
    asdfhsdkjfh342 asdfhsdkjfh342 Mar 10, 2014 4:18 AM Flag

    guys, let's call a spade a spade..
he is not an idiot, just behaves like one

i hoped it was a temporary issue, when he started drifting/rambling towards his imaginary world..
but then he hit rock bottom and started digging from there..

at that point i didn't even look at his messages, even though before i used to get a chuckle from his usually funny and sometimes witty remarks..

so for the new rancid dorian dude - we can do without our kitchen
to our old friend and contributor dorian - this is an open invitation back to his senses and to re-join the team.

let him make a choice - i'm sure he will come up with something even cooler than picking nok at 8.20 and riding it down to 7.05.. he can do nice, good deeds too, i trust him.

  • asdfhsdkjfh342 asdfhsdkjfh342 Mar 10, 2014 4:01 AM Flag

their modus operandi is to have things that work
and from most of the things they have now, maps are a weak point

so i can see in the near future once here start flexing more muscle via phones, cars and other connected devices, to make it into a compelling choice for everybody, not just apple.
and imo would make a lot of sense for apple, as it would get them on an equal footing with google from maps perspective..

just think about how many cool iphone apps could be done with a solid maps api integrated in the ios core, supported by an even more solid mapping infrastructure...

    --
fyi, i've purchased a nok phone (920 - yellow of course :) to see how things work and was v happy about the here maps

usually HERE are better than other mapping alternatives i have (car, regular gps device, running watch, etc :)

with a bit of integration things will be on the up and coming soon on multiple platforms near you..

primesense is less than a 1/10 of what here has to offer
it was a desperate move that will take them nowhere.. so to speak..

  • asdfhsdkjfh342 asdfhsdkjfh342 Mar 8, 2014 2:21 AM Flag

makes too much sense - hence probably won't happen..
but just imagine the price apple would pay to get 1 bn from msft..
and msft to know they depend on here maps from aapl..

imo it's just a mater of a spark/hint/little wink that nok wants to sell HERE, that a bidding war will start
    and that will be sweet..
