    EXPRESS SCRIPTS GETS THE BOOT

When a PBM says it can decide what to prescribe instead of letting the physician decide, the medical community gets very upset.

When a PBM says it will give preference to a specific treatment that is less complete AND can result in higher costs, the profitability of the health insurance industry can be impacted. Aetna knows the least expensive, highest impact treatment regime. So do the rest of the insurance industry players.

The bad vibes Express Scripts is sending out to virtually all its customers, agents, medical professionals is something to behold. Possibly part of the problems came from Medco because they had horrible relationships prior to the acquisition by Express Scripts, particularly on delivery accuracy.

Express Scripts would be wise to focus on getting the prescribed medicines out instead of trying to tell others how to do what others know best. Otherwise this type of attitude could begin their demise.
