Advanced RenderMan 2: To RI_INFINITY and
    Beyond
Tuesday, Full Day, 8:30 am - 5 pm
    Room 353-355

Many large and small animation production studios use
RenderMan to create high-quality, often photorealistic,
imagery for television and motion pictures. It is a
powerful, flexible, extensible system that allows users to
customize the software for situations that were not
envisioned by RenderMan's original implementors. This course
goes beyond the basics presented in The RenderMan
Companion and teaches advanced techniques that are being
used (or should be used) in turn-of-the-millennium
    special-effects production.

    Prerequisites
    Thorough
knowledge of 3D image synthesis, computer graphics
illumination models, previous experience with the RenderMan
shading language, and facility in C. This course is for
graphics programmers and technical directors. It is not
for those who avoid examining code.

    Topics
Modern methods of generating geometric data and handling
geometric complexity, advanced shading language techniques,
volumetric rendering, realistic lighting and reflection,
skin, hair and fur, and integration with other CGI
    tools.

    Buyout rumors, hmmm
    Considering Pixar's assets
and cash reserves the number would have to be fairly
    big...

Past Building, Building, Building and gathering lots
    of cash

    Pixar was profitable every quarter
    for the last four years
    Some of the excess cash
reserves were used to build the new state-of-the-art
    studio in Emeryville, CA
    Pixar stockpiled over $200
Million in cash for future projects (High Octane for
    Blockbuster movies)
Pixar hired Brad Bird onto the
creative team for building new features

    Present
Preparation for the release of four DVDs

    * August 1,
Disney Gold Collection Edition of "A Bug's Life" On
    DVD
    * August 8, The release of "Buzz Lightyear of Star
Command". On both Video & DVD
    * October 17 - Release of
"Toy Story / Toy Story 2 - DVD 2 Pack"
    * October 17
    - Release of "Toy Story / Toy Story 2 Collector's
    Set - DVD 3 Pack"
    * October, The launch of "Buzz
    Lightyear - The Television Series"
    * Oct - Dec, The
launch of many new toys and products based on
    Disney/Pixar characters
    * In time for the holidays: Videos,
DVDs, Toys and much, much, more

    Future
Shareholder value increases as profits from overlapping
    revenue streams compound

    Y2001 - Pixar begins
    releasing one movie per year
    Y2001 - Overlapping
revenue streams from Toy Story 1, 2, Bugs Life, Star
    Command
Y2002 - Overlapping revenue streams from Toy Story 1,
2, Bugs Life, Star Command, Monsters Inc.
    Y2003
    - Overlapping revenue streams from Toy Story 1, 2,
Bugs Life, Star Command, Monsters Inc, Movie
    3
Y2004 - Overlapping revenue streams from Toy Story 1,
2, Bugs Life, Star Command, Monsters Inc, Movie 3,
    4
Y2005 - Overlapping revenue streams from Toy Story 1,
2, Bugs Life, Star Command, Monsters Inc, Movie 3,
    4, 5

Each new movie leads to the development
of new characters and new products.

    These new
products lead to golden revenue streams that may continue
    to flow forever.

    That is partially how Disney
became an $80 Billion Dollar Company and
    How Pixar
plans to become a $10 Billion Dollar
    Company.

Heres to Infinity and Beyond !!!!

    May it
    happen sooner than you expect.

With NO plan to INCREASE SHAREHOLDER...

    by Calamity00 Jun 23, 2000 1:58 PM
    at_last_at_last at_last_at_last Jul 6, 2000 10:31 PM Flag

To hear something brilliant from you on how to
    increase shareholder value.

    Calamity,

    Your
prior suggestions for Pixar leave something to be
desired: Deplete valuable cash reserves by buying up a
    few shares
Todays shareholders might get a quick
rush but you seem to miss the point. (Steves plan for
    the future.)

Thats right, Pixar has a plan
for the future and that plan is going to take a lot
    of cash.
Creating one movie per year will require
more resources, both hardware and human, than Pixar
    currently has.

Pixar has just built an amazing
    state-of-the-art studio in Emeryville, California.
    If you had
just paid to build a new home, would you give away all
of you cash? (I doubt it.)

    It is going to
take millions of dollars to properly furnish Pixars
    new home.
    Running multiple teams, on multiple
movies, will require a lot more equipment than Pixar
    currently has.

To think that Pixar would give up
valuable cash reserves to take a few shares of stock off
the market seems a bit foolish.

    Calamity, if
you are going to help build shareholder value you are
going to have to come up with something
    better.
    Perhaps the following would work:

    1. Complete the
Disney obligation in a timely manner so you are free to
    work on other projects

    2. Build up your cash
reserves so you have the funds for new projects

    3.
Build multiple creative teams so you can create at
    least one movie per year

    Oh, that right, Pixar
is already doing all of the above.

    Calamity,

Under the current agreement with Disney, Disney
co-finances the production costs of the Pictures.
    Once
    Pixar starts creating one-picture-per-year without
Disney they are going to need their cash reserves.
    I
know that you would love to see Pixar give up their
plans for the future but to succeed they need to Be
    Prepared.

    Calamity,

There must be some other way that Pixar can build
shareholder value without giving up on the future.
    Please
give it another try but this time try to come up with
something that doesnt dump on the future.

    Good Luck

BTW. Your knowledge of the Apple turnaround seems to
    be a little deficient.

    Future
Shareholder value increases as profits from overlapping
    revenue streams compound

    Y2001 - Pixar begins
    releasing one movie per year
    Y2001 - Overlapping
revenue streams from Toy Story 1, 2, Bugs Life, Star
    Command
Y2002 - Overlapping revenue streams from Toy Story 1,
2, Bugs Life, Star Command, Monsters Inc.
    Y2003
    - Overlapping revenue streams from Toy Story 1, 2,
Bugs Life, Star Command, Monsters Inc, Movie
    3
Y2004 - Overlapping revenue streams from Toy Story 1,
2, Bugs Life, Star Command, Monsters Inc, Movie 3,
    4
Y2005 - Overlapping revenue streams from Toy Story 1,
2, Bugs Life, Star Command, Monsters Inc, Movie 3,
    4, 5

Each new movie leads to the development
of new characters and new products.

    These new
products lead to golden revenue streams that may continue
    to flow forever.

    That is partially how Disney
became an $80 Billion Dollar Company and
    How Pixar
plans to become a $10 Billion Dollar
    Company.

Heres to Infinity and Beyond !!!!

    May it
    happen sooner than you expect.

    Calamity,

Recently, Both Brad Bird and Joe
Roth signed on to Pixar because of their faith in
    Pixars future.

    Calamity, their stock options are
priced at or above todays stock price.
    You can bet
that the folks at Pixar are working to make these
    options worth something.

    Steves Target is to
build Pixar into a $10 Billion Dollar Animation
    Studio.

That goal takes talent and products. Eventually
    life-long revenue streams from
    overlapping product
lines is going to add up to a lot of shareholder value.

You just have to look beyond the short term to the
    long term

With NO plan to INCREASE SHAREHOLDER...

    by Calamity00 Jun 23, 2000 1:58 PM
    at_last_at_last at_last_at_last Jun 23, 2000 5:15 PM Flag

    Calamity,

    Your ideas for Pixar leave
something to be desired: Deplete valuable cash reserves by
    buying up a few shares
    Todays shareholders might
get a quick rush but you seem to miss the point.
    (Steves plan for the future.)

    Thats right, Pixar
has a plan for the future and that plan is going to
    take a lot of cash.
    Creating one movie per year
will require more resources, both hardware and human,
    than Pixar currently has.

    Pixar has just built
an amazing state-of-the-art studio in Emeryville,
    California.
If you had just paid to build a new home, would you
give away all of you cash? (I doubt it.)

    It is
going to take millions of dollars to properly furnish
    Pixars new home.
    Running multiple teams, on multiple
movies, will require a lot more equipment than Pixar
    currently has.

To think that Pixar would give up
valuable cash reserves to take a few shares of stock off
the market seems a bit foolish.

    Calamity, if
you are going to help build shareholder value you are
going to have to come up with something
    better.
    Perhaps the following would work:

    1. Complete the
Disney obligation in a timely manner so you are free to
    work on other projects

    2. Build up your cash
reserves so you have the funds for new projects

    3.
Build multiple creative teams so you can create at
    least one movie per year

    Oh, that right, Pixar
is already doing all of the above.

    Calamity,

Under the current agreement with Disney, Disney
co-finances the production costs of the Pictures.
    Once
    Pixar starts creating one-picture-per-year without
Disney they are going to need their cash reserves.
    I
know that you would love to see Pixar give up their
plans for the future but to succeed they need to Be
    Prepared.

    Calamity,

There must be some other way that Pixar can build
shareholder value without giving up on the future.
    Please
give it another try but this time try to come up with
something that doesnt dump on the future.

    Good Luck
