The MDR story is a sad one. I'm glad I don't see things like this too often. A once great company is gutted by bad management and changing market conditions. This reminds me of LAYN.
A team of US scientists used mathematical modelling to predict infection rates in Liberia’s most populated area, Montserrado. They calculated that without extra help, as many as 170,996 people could succumb to Ebola by December 15, representing 12% of an overall population of some 1.38 million. In Montserrado alone, there could be 90,122 deaths by that time, many of them unreported. Lead researcher Professor Alison Galvani, from the School of Public Health at Yale University, said: “Our predictions highlight the rapidly closing window of opportunity for controlling the outbreak and averting a catastrophic toll of new Ebola cases and deaths in the coming months.Although we might still be within the midst of what will ultimately be viewed as the early phase of the current outbreak, the possibility of averting calamitous repercussions from an initially delayed and insufficient response is quickly eroding.Much of the suffering could be averted if the international community stepped up control measures immediately, starting from the end of this month, according to the model.
custom pellets may have some niche applications, but its still going to be cheaper to make the pellets with pure hematite. CLF's ore has to be upgraded which makes them uncompetitive
GS made $8B last year. Have they contributed $250M to help stop the epidemic in Afrifca? It's about time Lloyd calls Jamie and says "hey guy...we have a problem and GS getting a bank charter won't solve it." It would be folly to think the inept US government is going to solve this issue. It would also be ill advised to do nothing . That's how the problem ended up in your backyard. Every month of doing nothing causes the case load to triple putting it over million by the end of January So here's the leveraged deal...form a charitable company headed by a consortium of banking and healthcare CEOs..Someone like Gorski from JNJ is in charge. ..whatever is needed to end the epidemic is provided as a donation to the charitable entity so everyone gets a tax deduction for saving the world.
Cliffs and the iron mining industry's problem is a lot of new capacity has come on line where the ore is pure hematite. If you aren't mining 100% hematite you may as well throw in the towel.
