Dow down 30 and most coal stocks down. As usual, NRP opened up. Now in the red at the low of the day.
If volume picks up will trade below $19. Natural gas dropping and back near $3.50. Not good for thermal
Two "not bad" days consecutively. Other coal stocks were mutilated. Dow too. Maybe the coming
distribution is beginning to kick in. Twenty nine trading days till ex.
Dow down 25. All coal stocks also down. New emission standards for generating plants have been announced. New standards were expected but still killing coal stocks. Natural gas dropping.
As expected, emission standards will kill all new coal fired plants. Still at a level that will allow
new natural gas plants to be built.
EPA to release emission standards for new generating plants today (existing plants June 2014). We already know that the new standards will prohibit the building of new coal fired plants forever (with existing technology).
Will take the stock price down for all coal companies if the news comes out before the market closes today.
Dow, all coal stocks and natural gas traded up early. All dropped into the red later and closed in the red except WLT and NRP. First time in months that NRP has recovered after dropping back into the red.
Might get some news from the EPA tomorrow!
NRP has not bottomed!
Dow up 145 and trading at all time high (S&P also). Most coal stocks up 5 to6%. Dollar weakened which will help coal exports. Ten year note fell which should help high yielding stocks (like NRP). NRP did trade up a bit after 2:30 but then fell back into the red. Almost closed down for a 6th consecutive day but did settle up 7 cents ofter being down 3 cents at 4pm.
NRP is going much lower!!
Totally agree, jrad. Distribution cut is coming. Should do it now. Do you know how much of the
Appalachia coal is met coal? Also, don't know why NRP stopped reserving debt repayment.
Some months ago, Motley Fools implied that NRP is using questionable accounting practices.
Believe you agree.
James River Coal Company has laid off 525 workers and idled coal production at several of its Central Applachia mines. Weak coal demand in US and export given as reason.
Seeking Alpha contributor comments are the most negative that I have seen for coal exports. Think he
is correct. Don't know when coal turns. Looks like 2015 earliest.
