Windstream says the DTN-X is state of the art

Iluvglw: I would add ....yet but soon.... To the end of your post.

And the technology is great....confirmed by all the experts opinion and even the verizon engineers. Let's see how they do over the next year of two. That mediocre at best equipment from Alcatel is only accepted when they give it away free. Or when it's legacy contracts and the price is even lower than free lol I Infn is winning a lot of new contracts and buyers are paying for the "better" equipment. That should tell you something about how good their equipment is. Welcome back to the board.

Does anyone know how to put people on ignore? The stupid posts have risen dramatically lately. I hate to say it but I almost miss GLW giving me #$%$ for being bullish. I don't quite miss no bias and his sfl texts yet. Lol but when I do I'll know I have hit the limit. Of course these idiot posts will probably increase in frequency as the stock price increases. Who gives a #$%$ about thumb up or down?? Really??!! And keep your great stock tip sites to yourself please. No one cares.

It's ok to have naysayers like GLW around. He has been pretty consistent with his views from the get go. We don't need everyone to be a cheerleader. Everyone here knows where they stand long or short or neutral. As a long I look forward to the day that guys like GLW say you were right and I was wrong. Let them have their say today but let's see where things are when the dust settles. I like having GLW state his view because I like raging counter it. I learn from both but agree w raging. I believe the company knows what they are doing and is on track to do what they say. GLW, for whatever reason (and I don't care) sees it differently. We will see who's right at the end. Cheers.

Byron, have you started referring to yourself in the third person? You know this is going to get comments from GLW! Lol
Btw GLW loved the Twinkie analogy. Used to love those until I ate a whole box at the age of 11. Yeah a bit overindulgence I admit. I do appreciate reading your contrarian views even if I don't agree w them. Keep them coming. We need more naysayers to keep us honest. I have indeed been waiting forever for this stock to take off. It's like watching paint dry. However, I believe the company knows what it's doing and is on track to takeover 100G and beyond. I agree w raging in that all the others are piecemealing their systems to get to 100G while w the DTN-X it's a fresh start from 100G and scales upward nicely from there. No one else can do that from their 100G solutions. This year will be a make or break year for INFN. I am betting on the make.

Sorry off topic. This might be old news but zayo confirms using Infinera DTN-X

Home Network Design Zayo deploys Infinera DTN-X to support 100GbE service delivery
Zayo deploys Infinera DTN-X to support 100GbE service delivery
    November 21, 2013
    Lightwave Staff

Zayo Group LLC has revealed that Infinera (NASDAQ: INFN) has supplied its DTN-X packet-optical transport platform to support the fiber-optic network services provider’s previously announced move to 100 Gbps.

Zayo revealed Infinera’s role in a press release announcing that it would use the DTN-X to supply 1-Tbps capacity via superchannel to the SCinet network for Super Computing 2013 (SC13) this week. The company also said it would use the show, and the DTN-X, to demonstrate rapid provisioning of 100 Gigabit Ethernet (100GbE) services from the show floor at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver to Chicago.

"The delivery of terabit service on SCinet demonstrates how fast Zayo can deploy capacity for our customers," said David Dunn, vice president of wavelength product at Zayo. "Through our collaboration with Infinera on this deployment, we are demonstrating our ability to expand our 100GbE services to accommodate the bandwidth-driven needs of our customers.”

Zayo announced last December that it had begun to implement 100-Gbps technology on its network, but did not reveal where it was getting the technology (see “Zayo adds 100-Gbps optical transmission capability”). It subsequently provided more details of its deployment (see “Zayo Group offers 100G wavelength services to Northeast Corridor,” “Zayo adds 100 Gbps to Chicago-to-Memphis fiber link,” and “Zayo unveils West Coast 100G wavelength services”), as well as a 100G partnership with Internet2 (see “Zayo pairs with Internet2 to offer 100-Gbps optical network services”). The company is using the new capabilities to offer 100GbE services to such customers as research and education institutions, Internet content providers, and government agencies.

Glw: not to get into an annoying back and forth where we just restate the same things over and over I will just say that management has been very clear that they are not going to give annual guidance anymore. They did last year since they had the DTN-X coming on line but they will not do that again. That doesn't mean they are worried about growth. They actually gave good guidance for the quarter considering a couple of deals got pushed out to Q1. If those deals don't get pushed out Q4 is big and we have a better Q over Q. Point being that the beginning of the year should be hot as raging has stated.

The reason I feel they will get verizon is that the DTN-X was basically designed for them with their blessing. Whether they are number 2 or 3 they will be a supplier. (Obviously my opinion). I agree w you that ala is not going away. That doesn't make them a good company. They are still losing money but at a slower rate so I guess that's a good thing. Tom Fallon isn't too impressed w their business model and neither am I. They seem to think that going and getting 2B loans is a good business plan lol. Infn has shown that they can make money with their business model and have been clear about where they see margins going. Do I remember correctly that Alcatel's optical had a margin of 17%. (Not sure where i remember that from? Maybe it's better now?)

Yes there are a lot of competitors in this space but no one has the vertical integration they infn has. So infn can cut costs easier and still make money. That's where they will seperate themselves from the otherss. And as far as I know no one else has the ability to scale up to 1T and beyond and maintain distance. But my technical knowledge here is limited and I defer to others here w that tech knowledge. I wonder if verizon will tap them to be their 1T supplier? Too early? Perhaps.

Tracey: sorry if I jumped all over you for that buyout talk. It's just ridiculous talk and I thought it came from you. I apologize.

  • aytac7777 aytac7777 Nov 15, 2013 11:15 PM Flag

Tracey, not to be rude but are you on drugs. There will be no buyout below mid 30s. They will get there on their own anyway w time. They didn't sell out to Ericsson for 17.5 back in 2010 and that was before they had the DTN--X out to market. There is no way they sell out for less than 30s. So forget all this stupid talk of offers at 12. What bull shi-.
Glw: your constant bashing of infn and touting a money losing company like ala is getting extremely boring. It's the same blah blah blah.

They will indeed announce verizon when it happens. And they WILL get verizon because verizon needs them more now than ever.

With the guidance they gave they will be growing at 22 to 24% per year (see raging's post previously) who else is growing like that? This selling is bs and way over done. We will snap right back up when they announce level 3 before the end of the year. And then continue to climb higher when verizon is announced. Goldman likes doing those 2 billion dollar loans to ala every year. What a great business model they have.
This is a lumpy business but from what I can see they are on track to have a great beginning of the year. I agree w imagine, if you can't take the ups and downs get out.
Sorry if this offends you but enough whining already.

I agree that verizon may be a catalyst for acquisition talks. However I don't believe that verizon will happen until sometime In the first part Iof 2014.

And that comment from the GS analyst was ridiculous. Like verizon and level 3 won't boost revenues and 10G is just going to stop cold turkey. Total BS. Oh wait ala needs to raise money and you are their banker. No conflict of interest there. Lol

why no press release for Verizon? Ciena is able to say they are a supplier to them so why can't Infinera if they win the contract? Seems like that would only be fair. I agree with Level 3 but I think they get Verizon too. Again it seems as though they built this DTN-X for Verizon.
Totally admitting I am ignorant of the technical issues.

It would seem odd that infn would not take into consideration what verizon wanted (16QAM modulation) since the DTN-X was developed with direct input from verizon and their blessing. This product was specifically tailored for verizon. I believe this was stated previously but I think it merits stating again.

Why would you go w an inferior product that can't be scaled up? From a dying company that had to lay off thousands of employees to try to stay alive? A company riddled w debt, that has used all of its patents as collateral for the loans it keeps needing to take out to stay alive. Seems like that would be a hard sell in the verizon boardroom. Inferior product, riddled with debt, laying off thousands, may not survive.....yeah that's who we should go How could that be a bad idea? :)

If they get level 3 we could easily see 15. The stock price will be priced for what they guided toward but that changes dramatically if they get level 3. I think they expect to get level 3 and verizon. I know everyone is disappointed in the guidance but that is what this company does: they guide conservatively. Without knowing for sure that revenue is going to be in the books they aren't going to include it. They could have probably massaged the numbers better to cushion Q4 better and not beat for Q3 by as much but to give them credit they are very transparent in that way. I for one was impressed with the call as compared to Q2s call. Tom was giddy and confident not flustered and short as in the last call. He was clearly trying to say don't get too hung up on the next quarter: great things are about to happen. Let's not forget that they crushed this Q and got no credit for that. If they come in where they guided they will have 27% year over year growth. That's great growth! They will most likely beat that number too. Level 3 will be the key this quarter, but with 130 to 140 without level 3 or verizon that is not too shabby. They seem to be on track. Short term we may have buying ops but long term this company is a winner.

I think rev comes in at 142 mill w 6 cents profit w margins at 45%.

For next quarter I think guidance goes up to 150 to 160 mill. Break even to 4 cents profit w margins at 40%

I can understand why some legacy customers would stay with them but why would any new customers consider them? Especially since they have an inferior product and their fate is unknown.

I agree that they will come in at the high side of guidance, 145 mill w 6 cents in profit for the quarter. The more important part will be the guidance going forward. I don't think they will muddle it like they did last quarter where it was amateur hour. They have spent the remainder of the quarter trying to correct that ridiculous conf call. The Russian contract is good. I hope we see a few more announcements before earnings as it's been quiet for too long. I think and hope they are having the same quarter that cienna and others are having. If they are then we should be in good shape. I do believe that we are undervalued here compared to cienna but that's our fault due to the confusing conf call last quarter. If we had the upbeat, full of confidence call that cienna had then we would be higher here. But i think we will get higher as we become profitable. It will get interesting when level 3 and Verizon come in. And Verizon will come in for sure. As a good friend reminded me this DTN-X was essentially tailored for Verizon. They were involved in the development of it and have continued to be. If Verizon doesn't use the DTN-X then no one will ever develop a product for them again. Kind of nice to be the 800 pound gorilla where companies develop products that fit what you want. In that context I believe there is a very high probability that we get verizon. The only question is when. Early spring is most likely.
