Last quarter, Intel posted earnings of $0.58 on revenues of $13.5 billion and GM of 62.5%. Guidance was for $13.7 billion plus/minus $500 million with GM for 61% plus/minus 2%. I think revenues should at least meet, and if GM is midrange, INTC should beat estimates. I bought some small call options just case.
some may wait for earnings on thursday hoping for bad numbers, so we may see another spike up after earnings.
"wolf in sheep skin" ...good one :).
wbmw hopes intel places LARGE order of the xmm7260 with tsmc. I hope they give the xmm 7260 away for free too :). This would cause capacity problems for tsmc and cause QUALCOMM margins to deteriorate...kill two birds with one stone.
I find it extremely interesting that the Edison is the same size and form-factor as an SD card. Basically, if one were to put Edison into an SD card and insert it into any system that has an SD slot, one will be able to run the Linux that is in that Edison.
Furthermore, if Edison catches on and companies develop Smart Devices that have some sort of display, and removable SD slot, it will basically allow any Linux software developer to write code onto that Edison to do whatever they wanted with that smart device. For example, if a company created a coffee cup with a 2"x2" display on it, and a SD slot, then some Linux developer can write code to have the display any kind of information for that display.
Like I says...Edison can catch on like wild-fire
Opinions on Steam OS and Steam machines please. This initiative by Valve is truly creative and if it takes off, can be a major boon for Intel. The Steam machines were what I expected Intel's set-top box would morph into. I have read that some Steam machines have HDMI in, so it would act like a set-top box. I hope Intel partners with Valve and Steam machine makers as well as Verizon to bring Intel's TV streaming technology (and all the data infrastructure) to even more homes.
"8-inch tablets saw their shipment share rise significantly from 5.9% in September 2013 to over 15% in December because of the entry of Windows-based 8-inch tablets. Intel's release of its Bay Trail-based processors have relieved Windows-based tablets from power-efficiency concerns, prompting first-tier PC brand vendors such as Lenovo, Acer and Dell to release related devices, Digitimes Research's figures showed."
I am not a gamer but SteamOS seems to be taking the gaming market by storm. If you youtube SteamOS and Steam machines, you will find there are hundreds of thousands of views for each video and a lot of comments from users talking about how they are going to replace their xbox/ps with a steam machine. SteamOS is free and basically allows you to play PCs on your TV. Here's some comments by Valve's Gabe Newell:
- He said Valve experienced 62 percent year-over-year revenue growth, with 65 million accounts currently on Steam. He also revealed, to Peter Bright's delight, that Dota2 is now "bigger than Monday Night Football"
- In terms of future Steam hardware, Newell said Valve will produce its own Steam controllers while others will also make controllers. He said the company has about 250 titles running on SteamOS and that beta users have been "super happy," claiming "it's the best thing since the beginning of time." (Though Newell reiterated he needs to poke them harder and the company wants all the info on what may possibly be "wrong" during this testing.) And with the company's 65 million users, he noted it'll take Microsoft and its Xbox One awhile to catch up based on the latest numbers.
Ashraf, IMO, you have a right to express your opinion but I think what gets us long angry is that you're a technical writer and very visible. So what you say carry more weight (even though you may not think so, but you yourself said there are over 7000 following you on SA) and so even if you are just 'venting', it can be misinterpreted by casual readers and even longs. I think as someone who is quite visible, I think you should take a little more responsibility in what you write on here and iHub. JMHO.
Yep, It will be the fastest Android tablet in the market. Gamers will be all over it. Check out this tweet by Francois:

The Dual OS implementation is without Performance degradation in each OS :) #x86_FTW -- You don't need to choose anymore.
Perceptual computing, Augmented reality, 3D printing...these technologies go hand-in-hand. These and the Smart Devices/Internet of Things are the future. Intel will be right there with their 3D camera chip and Quark /Edison chips
Amazon still doesn't have new batch yet. Should be great quarter for Intel.
