yep. i have seen this. but i don't believe it's true. if it is, then i am happy as it should add some significant value to the shares.
okay. (amit74b is my old account). i hope you are right about the real estate sale. that should be a very nice pop when it closes. however, i think it's AIG.
the quarter was blah. i need to review the 10q.
a very nice day to hit 200. been a long time coming since it was in the 130s not too long ago.
okay. so you don't like the company/stock. what do you recommend the company do?
i own a lot of nwli. i too hope the quarter is good. it should be.
however, amazon (which i would never own at these levels) is a totally different business. they have a real franchise and moat (in my view). different growth prospects, different risk factors.
amazon has outperformed nwli on most time periods. both from a stock perspective and a company perspective.
come on. lets compare nwli to real peers. it's cheap when comparing to other insurers. comparing it to amazon is just silly
this must be what drove the stock up a little bit during the call.
this is probably worth a few bucks. not a huge surprise, i expected this news.
checking this on a daily basis will make you go crazy.
we should see 1st quarter earnings soon. hopefully we can cross the magic level for book value. let's hope the market gets this to .5x book soon. dare to dream.
would suspect all these shorts are against other longs.
seems a stupid reason not to pay a dividend. more likely he doesn't need the money.
i think the vast majority of institutional shareholders do not think you are ever going to see the profits in this business. And that's why this trades at terrible levels relative to peers.
at some point an activist will get involved here to unlock value. it won't be until the son takes over and perhaps after the old man dies. so don't hold your breath.
what you can focus on is how the company is executing in a tough environment. i think if they can get to the 7% roe we should see P/BV get to 0.55x.
great call. hoping that NWLI has a nice run soon. we need some catalysts though.
does anyone know why ANAT pays a nice large dividend and NWLI does not? they are both controlled by the moody family so it's not like the family has a problem with dividends.
however, given the nature and structure of the class a and class b dividend payout rules it's unlikely that the family would pay out a larger dividend as it would cost them money. (even though it would be a tiny amount).
i am hoping that the son will institution a larger dividend when he takes charge in the future. a 3.5% dividend yield i think would make shareholders very happy.
what has been the reason for the move in ANAT? in nov/dec when it had that huge fall i think it got attention and folks started looking at it. plus the divy was pretty nice.
think they were asking for too much last year. i would not be shocked if they wanted $75. let's see if they revisit this in 2014 with a much lower ask ($65).
you just got your ceo to do a great deal. why would you even want to speak with the lawyers.
we own about 1% of the company and are thrilled with the sale and more importantly who the company was sold to. i bet in a few years LBAI will be sold.
ANAT has done remarkable well as an aside.
anyway, back to nwli - i think once we get book value above 400 we might attract some more interest to get the stock up to 200. but the real turn will be when ROE gets above 7%.
she wants to be doing her job. and that should be fine. she will investigate and determine that NWLI hasn't done anything wrong.
i continue to strongly believe that brazil is a non event. this isn't the first time it's come up and won't be the last time.
more likely that wfc buys schwab. but not happening anytime soon.
the volume on this stock has really picked up over the past few months. all seems to be well with the company. let's see what they can do this year. the valuation shows that there really isn't much belief that this is a good company. i obviously disagree
i don't think many folks are arguing for much more than 0.7-0.8x book value. however, that level still provides significant upside from when most of us where buying in the 140-150 range. i see this stock at 300 in a few years.
am i annoyed they didn't buy back shares via a tender. yep. are they doing the best they can in the rate environment. yep. is it a sleep at night stock. yep.
