  • Asia had the best day for a long time. US tech is leading the charge here, FEYE can spike to close the year, shorts are going to be very wrong on the timing of this one.

The disconnect between all the information coming from the company and the stock price in FEYE is so big that I think we may be surprised at how FEYE may go in the days ahead..The guy who posted here saying he was from FireEye was saying they have to turn people away sometimes when they call for help.

Shorting when this was $90 was obviously a great idea particularly in hindsight, at that time the revenues were not there to justify a 12 billion valuation yet. But probably not now.

  • SYMC is now a $17 Billion company, focusing primarily on consumers. Fireeye, with the focus on the enterprise can eventually get to this value if they keep executing as they are.

This can spike up any day, even this week,. the stock has been depressed way too long. Oracle earnings is a strong plus for fireeye given how Oracle has been linked as a possible suitor.

Two weeks back the CFO gave an interview in the Wall street journal blogs describing how FireEye is investing for the long term and needs to invest in heavy sales and marketing and R&D etc. i think that may have scared some, that was the exact point (2 weeks ago) when it seemed like relentless selling started, stock was about 32 then looking to move up it seemed. If that is the source then it is a non-issue since this is exactly what FireEye has been preaching to the market all year.

There have been non-stop positive news coming from the company on their business development that shows their leadership in security. Partnering with the biggest telecom companies worldwide and governmental units in the US have all been ignored by the market.

Eventually the stock price will catch up even if the recent Dealreporter rumor on IBM/Oracle turns out to be unfounded. FireEye now is perhaps the cheapest security company that is doing half a billion in year in business already.

This stock has the momentum of a dinosaur. Look at charts, when it's going up its always going up, when it's going down it's always going down.

The overall markets, or company specific news seems to make no meaningful difference in any way. One of the strangest stocks in the market, I like your ticker symbol change suggestion.

    Sentiment: Buy

  • As this board discusses possible companies that may acquire FireEye the two ones that come up most frequently here are IBM and Oracle.

But don't rule out Microsoft. Under the new CEO they may make an aggressive move too. Microsoft is targeting mobile and enterprises, areas where security is most important.

There is also recent things where they have worked together, so microsoft may be familiar with fireeye's strengths. Google "FireEye, Microsoft, Cisco team up to take down RAT-flinging crew" as one example

It will take one or two hedge fund managers who decide to go against the flow to move the stock price back up. Currently there are only sellers, cash on sidelines is not buying, the much lower volumes suggest something.

Look at revenue numbers and do a carefully Palo Alto and Fireeye comparison. FEYE is over overdue to recover.

There are over 3000 counties in the US and ten times that many if you look into city councils etc. Not sure how big each contract is though.

  • I was looking through the news on the IBM-Apple partnership for Enterprise Apps on iphones, ipads etc. I did not see direct references to financial terms.

If IBM is splitting revenue with Apple this can be reasonably big for IBM going forward. They have not had revenues from enterprise end-user apps on iphones/ipads, this is a new market for them i think.

    PE of 12.

    by bdrn99 Dec 10, 2014 3:09 PM

HP has a PE of 14.5, even with their current woes. If IBM were to trade there now that alone should be a $20 increase in share price right now.

I agree with you on the big move coming after EPS show a rising trend again, but at that point why would we not be back at $180-$200 instead of $160?

When that happens why wouldn't the PE be 16-18 like other Dow/S&P stocks?

    IBM shines in down market

    by topinvestgun1 Dec 9, 2014 9:38 AM

It was impressive how in the first part of the day when the market was down IBM was up strong. The recent low volume is also pointing to lack of sellers.

I don't think the stock is ready to rock 200 or anywhere near yet. But at these prices with their dividends, buybacks, cash flow, Watson, security, improving cloud deals there is more good than bad in store for investors. Stock may attract more institutional money in early 2015 or even to close out the year.

IBM (and Technology) winners when oil is down

    by bdrn99 Dec 8, 2014 11:50 PM
    bdrn99 bdrn99 Dec 9, 2014 9:15 AM Flag

Few of those will lose jobs, we havent seen massive layoffs from energy companies when oil prices are down. Any effect from this will be made up by significantly more consumer and business spending with lower energy prices.

That (increased business spending due to lower energy costs) is what will help large companies like IBM that are getting these billion dollar deals.

The effect of low energy prices on technology stocks is much ado about nothing. There's lots of money on the sidelines that is probably waiting for good entry points and this "crisis" will give them one more opportunity.

For IBM they should continue to use this period to either look for acquisitions of companies or accelerate buybacks when the price stays at this level.

    Sentiment: Strong Buy

  • When energy prices are down most consumers have more money and most manufacturers, airlines have less costs. When large firms save on energy they are likely to invest more in technology, look for even more large deals for the big tech firms.

Energy companies are likely the ones who might spend less, but they are a smaller share of the world economy, so the net is still a big positive for companies like IBM.

Can't understand these knee jerk market reactions that punish all companies when oil prices go down.

    Sentiment: Strong Buy

  • I don't know if FEYE will get an offer from IBM or Oracle, but if it does it would be in the 8-10 Billion range, anything less and there is no way FireEye will accept.

    Sentiment: Strong Buy

FEYE would be a good move for IBM.

I think IBM stock would move up 5% if they did make an offer for FireEye. The market i think wants to see IBM go out and expand by intelligent acquisition than just buybacks alone.
