- Geron: Telomerase inhibitor imetelstat demonstrates early signs of efficacy ... achieved a spleen volume response ( 35% reduction by MRI or CT) of ... In comparison, Jakafi achieved a spleen volume response rate of 41.9%.
The Mayo Clinic’s Ayalew Tefferi – who will be presenting the Imetelstat data at ASH, and who has been publicly critical of the overall utility of JAK inhibitors in the myelofibrosis patient population – wrote in the ASH abstract that “JAK2 mutations are neither specific nor pathogenetically essential for the disease.”
Geron CEO John “Chip” Scarlett said during the call that Imetelstat “has the potential to address the underlying neoplasm.” The drug works by inhibiting the enzyme telomerase, which lengthens the tips of chromosomes, the telomeres. Telomeres usually shorten with each cell division and function as a molecular clock for cells, which die when their telomeres get too short. Keeping their telomeres long is one of the ways in which cancer cells are able to keep dividing indefinitely.
Company executives did not comment specifically on the analyses, or the state of the spleens of the patients in the trial. But complete and partial responses “are intended to signify disease modification,” Scarlett said. An enlarged spleen is a consequence of the disease processes, and so “if you get the underlying neoplasm to head in the right direction, most of these criteria would head in the right direction.”
What would you call a 33-year-old man who both had and axiomatically acted upon a deviant sexual appetite for underage, drug-addicted, runaway boys? You call him Harvey Milk.
Harvey Milk’s only claim to fame is that he was the first openly homosexual candidate to be elected to public office (San Francisco city commissioner). His chief cause was to do away with the Judeo-Christian sexual ethic. In 1978 Milk was murdered over a non-related political dispute by fellow Democrat Dan White.
And a “progressive” martyr was born.
So what does a man like Harvey Milk get for his apparent crimes? While most sexual predators get time in prison and a dishonorable mention on the registry of sex offenders, Harvey Milk got his own California state holiday (“Harvey Milk Day”) and, more recently, his own commemorative postage stamp, awarded by the Obama administration’s USPS.
God bless America?
So much for the White House dream of solar selling like hotcakes. The first federal auction run by the Bureau of Land Management to sell chances to build solar power projects on public land went completely bust on Thursday.
Nobody showed to bid.
“We did not have any bidders come to the sale, and we did not received any sealed bids on the sale,” BLM spokeswoman Vanessa Lacayo said, Denver Business Journal reported.
The auction was held Thursday in Lakewood, Colo. And even though it was a no-show from those with money — a complete wash-out, waste of time, zero-participation
A change to the Marine Corps’ uniform hats could take the hard-nosed Leathernecks from the Halls of Montezuma to the shops of Christopher Street.
Thanks to a plan by President Obama to create a “unisex” look for the Corps, officials are on the verge of swapping out the Marines’ iconic caps – known as “covers” — with a new version that some have derided as so “girly” that they would make the French blush.
“We don’t even have enough funding to buy bullets, and the DoD is pushing to spend $8 million on covers that look like women’s hats!” one senior Marine source fumed to The Post. “The Marines deserve better. It makes them look ridiculous.”
The thin new covers have a feminine line that some officials think would make them look just as good on female marines as on males — in keeping with the Obama directive.
“The Marine Corps is being ‘encouraged’ by DoD to standardize on a unisex/universal dress and service cap,” Marine brass noted in an internal memo obtained by The Post.
Sure they do
Craigslist makes turning food stamps into cash a SNAP. “On the bright side, at least the Craigslist website is working. “The other cool thing about SNAP is that after you sell it to someone you can call the office and tell them you lost yours. They will give you a new card on the spot, no questions asked

USPS to destroy entire press run of brand new Just Move! stamps. Because the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition says the stamps depict “unsafe” activities. Specifically, the council mentions the cannonball dive, skateboarding without kneepads, and doing a headstand without a helmet.
