You are right about this. Now with the possibility of ACA fraud---if they catch a huge amount of fraud will they just forgive the penalty and send "soft letters" like they didi the year the clamped down on EITC? Will they all bet first time penalty abatement???? AND the fraudulent preparers who maybe were told fraudulent info???
This may not be popular, BUT if everyone had to load their refund to their bank account---ever tried to open an account in the last 5 years? It requires more ID than us letitimate preparers ask for EITC verification. I'm just saying, a fraudulent person could go to Wal Mart buy 100 gift cards for $25 each and load 4 refunds each on them!!!----NO IDENTITY REQUIRED. This money can be spent in ANY country in the WORLD!
We hear about Mo-Money and Instant Tax---they are likely small players compared with some of the international operatives that we hear nothing about and that the IRS likely has no recourse to collect much less prosecute.
Dittos about wondering where our $60+ per year is going? They should at least be using some of it to advertise that a gift card to a fancy restaurant is paying the preparer and that the preparer MUST have a PIN and must sign the return.
Just joining in your venting!!!! You are right on.
