SEC should be looking into who's running this up

Moron, huh? Seems a bit of a strong reaction to something that's been said on TV, in news updates and by others on this board. And this wasn't a sudden drop, but a slow and steady wearing down of price to reflect changing values... Not the kind of stock investors suddenly flock to all at once for no apparent reason... Unless they're deliberately looking to manipulate the market in a short squeeze...

  • Isn't deliberately causing a short squeeze blatant market manipulation? Isn't that illegal? Either they're manipulating the market or they are trading on insider information that no one else knows about -- which is also illegal... But something sure smells dirty here...

  • OK, I was confused when it happened. Russia isn't even part of the EU. Why would YNDX be affected by what the EU does with GOOG? What Russia does with GOOG, yes, but EU -- not much. And the EU has been after GOOG for over 4 years without much effect. Why such a huge reaction now? Even if the EU came down hard on GOOG, which is unlikely, how much market share would it really give up to YNDX in the EU? How many people in the EU really want a Russian Internet provider?

This quote seems to suggest that the huge run up was in error:

"The pop in Yandex's stock may have been overblown, suggested Robert Lutts, president of Cabot Money Management in Salem, Massachusetts, a long-term bull on Russia but skeptical about Yandex. "There was clearly a kneejerk reaction to the idea it could help the regulatory environment, but I suspect there's no real benefit."

This makes no sense to me. Just because Shell wants BG does not mean anything about BP being a takeover target... The other big oils are all down today. Crude is down almost 2.5% and BP is soaring as if someone wanted to buy them... Is this really as crazy as it seems?
