Your post seems to indicate that you are not familiar with the current relationship
between Facebook and Instagram .
it's not .
The following are the remaining Market Holidays and early closes for 2013 ....
Thanksgiving Day Thursday, November 28, 2013
[ Early close on November 27, 2013 ]
Christmas Wednesday, December 25, 2013
[ Early closes on Tuesday, December 24 ]
The last time Barron's commented on Facebook it said Facebook was only worth
In between then and now the only thing I've heard from Barron's , regarding Facebook ,
is this article you posted today , totradetime .
I have to wonder how Barron's goes from saying , " Facebook is worth $25.00 a share "
to saying Facebook is a buy in the high $40s .
I don't disagree with the " thumbs down " on my post .
A $50 price target on the Twitter IPO is ridiculous .
I agree with sleepyd1ck , " Here comes the mm pumping the stocks.
" Twitter, which is expected to IPO later this year, got an initiation rating of buy from SunTrust Robinson Humphrey, which also set a price target of $50. "
rougherneck , your initial post subject line reads ....
" Web-tracking expert Ian Lurie says Facebook is roughly two years away from obsolescence. "
And , in a post further down on this thread , you write ....
" Facebook obsolete in 2 years from now. Stated by an absolute independent pro Ian Laurie. "
I say , your independent pro [ Ian Laurie ] can't make absolute statements while putting a cushion
in place just in case he's wrong .
The following sentence [ in essence ] is a caveat which discredits the " expert " title attributed to
Ian Laurie ....
" Lurie says Facebook will have to make a giant step with its content offerings in order to maintain its relevance. "
What Laurie is saying , in this sentence , contradicts the prior " absolute " statements .
Laurie can't have it both ways .
" Piper Jaffray has raised its price target for Facebook to $57, citing the upcoming video offering and Instagram monetization. Piper sees further upside for shares of Facebook but believes other large cap stocks may be more attractive given the recent run-up in the name. The firm maintains an Overweight rating. "
Wall Street Cheat Sheet
"Twitter is making 39 cents for every dollar Facebook gets out a user and 30 cents compared to a similar dollar LinkedIn would get. "
The bottom line ....
"This could either mean room for substantial growth or represent a warning sign about the company’s ability to run a solid business. "
Forbes .... Tristan Louis
" In the case of Facebook , it had to prove it could "monetize" usage on mobile devices, having no mobile-ad revenue at all when it went public. Twitter, by contrast, has to prove it can be profitable. "
You say ,
" There IS NO shorting IPO's. "
Mr. Niles says ,
" I shorted it the moment it opened for trading at $42 dollars a share. "
So , avxtunnelvision , are you absolutely certain that " There IS NO shorting IPO's. "
" Now long the stock, Niles says there are three upcoming events that he believes will further boost Facebook’s share price. "
I've watched Mr. Niles make calls since 1998 and with regard to Facebook , he's been spot on
with his calls .
He knew to short Facebook at the IPO and knew to go long about a month and a half ago .
I don't make trades based on what an analyst says [ any analyst ] but Niles is one of best
I've heard and watched over the years .
" Facebook today announced that the company's third quarter 2013 financial results will be released after market close on Wednesday, October 30, 2013."
