In the latest Barron's article titled "Sizing Up the Weyerhaeuser Plum Creek Merger" mention is made that their combined ownership of land is over 13 million acres. That makes it America's largest private landowner. To give you a reference of the size, this amount of land that they will own is larger than the entire state of Maryland. Barron's conclusion is that "the post-merger REIT could return nearly 40% including it's 4,2% dividend. I guess it's true, "money grows on trees"..
