You do point out how it works, though I have held stock in "non-federal assets" , only to see them buy into fed acreage. Indian trust assets are also an issue, and to expand on your mention of trusts, that is a very good solution. Of course I can hold anything in a Roth IRA, though I am a student of the indoctrination the agencies provide, "no appearance of impropriety"
The thing about the Canadian stuff is that I made out like a bandit, with Canroys, until the (evil) Canadian Finance Minister, James Flaherty, announced his "Halloween Surprise" some years ago, and instantly the Canadian royalty trusts lost something like 30 billion in market cap over the course of a couple days. I was heavily into these trusts, and was at the point where (after gtaxes) I was paying off half my mortgage payments.
thus, the "DTJF" lines in my ancient posts from those days - normally it was "DTBL" (death to Bin Laden)
I mean't no harm, though the educational institutions in Canada lost "beacoup bucks" in no time flat. Harm was done,
still though I have only been to Canada 20 years ago for an ice climbing trip (Alberta, eh?) I love the people I met, and it was a great experience.
I suppose I can't complain about anything - other than the misrepresentations of Greg Noval for SNG, in T&T, and the management team that replaced him in the "new" concern - SOQ.
Dirks and Shanks have done a fine job of slicing and dicing, while they have told the stories about trying to keep the company afloat - all the while reaping their salaries,
while the stockholders will get reaped when they find out that Zarat was only a big deal to keep the management team employed.
these things happen, as per your suggestion I will be looking at investing in MLPs for pipelines and new shale plays in the US - and reporting every single investment I make to the agency I am NOT working for - since I am furloughed!
Deep - I learned that even in Trinidad, the turtles and the tourism is worth more than onshore/close-by offshore development is a big "IF" - I still believe SOQ lied to their investors about the potential of the 5C block, and the onshore assets - they reported them as assets, while all the while knowing they would get no permits - and did not provide this info to investors.
Plus they pretty much screwed things up!
I checked out the Canterbury "assets" held by TAG, it seems they are looking to see what Anadarko comes up with in their well, sometime soon, thanks for giving me something to take a look at - a long, hard look,
sure wish I had the $12K I lost on believing Greg Noval - it has been proven now that Dirks and Schanks (both names for knives) have sliced and diced SOQ for their own salary - who cares what happens to the company if their golden parachute lets them get away with plenty of cash.
sure wish I could invest in some US companies - though I am on furlough because I work for the US-DOI and can't invest in companies or assets that have an interest in federal lands,
why else would I look for offshore opportunities!
I sure am an asxhol;e though, and I see Canada is no longer the way to go - I suggest many in Calgary running their "international gas/oil plays" will continue to follow Noval's hype model; also Dirks and Schanks;
represent unproven reserves as "Lease Acres"
piggyback on news or hopes from adjacent acreage while they don't drill their own (witness Dirks and Schanks representations about developing acreage while they suggest close-by results somehow suggest their "WC" strategy would work - when their only hope was to pimp that gig, and sell acreage to ensure THEY GOT PAID THEIR SALARY.
buying opportunities abound in the USA as the USD drops in value, and DUG shows what is going on - just wait for news on the debt ceiling, it will bring this market to its' knees (DOW, SP500, etc.)
keep yer powder dry! and buy low and sell high!
Settle down, Hairy, many investors in many stocks have been around the block a time-or-two with many E&P companies, what you have asked for and what you have received is a longer term perspective from knowledgeable investors. And of course i don't expect you to believe what I say, since my username is pretty silly.
lashing out at board members will only lead to folks ignoring you,
and it may be too late to ask anyone on the board a Question, or even expect an answer.
