No one is selling hydrogen quad copters - There's a few marketing video's of prototypes but no products for sale. Can you guess why?
"This was at least the 3rd time the topic was discussed," - Driscoll did not ask about IP risk and there was no discussion about IP risk. Look it up yourself.
"Nothing can prevent anyone from obtaining a unit and reverse engineering it for their own gains." - In China that would seem to be the case. Elsewhere in the world there are IP laws.
"Isn't Proterra at risk for the same issue?" Perhaps, but what does that change?
Scan eagle is not a quad copter. And there are no FC quad copters on the market. The FC has not even been integrarted into the scan eagle yet nuch less test flown. Id put that PR right up there with Randy's misquoted or mis-spoken claim of $1M bus subsidies in China. Most of us here know from experience not to count the chickens before they are hatched.
Azure involved failure to launch. They never paid so development was never completed. IP theft is another matter altogether. It would be nice to hear someone at least address this issue during the CC's.
"No wonder Ballard doesn't sell anything in France." Ballard doesn't sell anything in France because they get 70% of their power from Nukes, they have the second least carbon energy in the EU and they have some of the cheapest electricity in the EU. What do they need from Ballard?
"but so far hasn't compelled manufacturers " - Well no wonder since they are so far behind on regulations. How can a Country who claims to be so concerned about air quality be so far behind in regulating emissions? Because it's China and you simply can't trust them. Look what they did to Samsung and LG simply to protect domestic battery manufacturers. They don't care about clean air, they only care about Chinese manufacturers and home grown profits. China has been protecting their manufacturers while poisoning the air for years.
Not sure what phases your talking about- Ballard has been going thru them for well over 15 years. Last year this time shares out stood at 134M. This year they ended the Q with 157M shares out. It's not a critical mass its the "story". The story keeps changing with Ballard so don't forget to take some profits..Right now its all about China and hoping new investors have short memories..

Glad to see nukes mentioned. Look at France. Quite a success story. Its too bad the anti nuke crowd is sounding like denialists in their dismissal of science and facts.
Bldp has often traded up on down days and down on up days. It all comes down to buyers vs sellers. Volume tends to drop along with buying interest...
You do know Ballard doesn't own their building any more right? Then you should know Ballard doesn't make buses or fuel cell stacks for Hyundai either.
Here's another observation: According to the transcript,Randy said "So in China today you have got a million dollar R&D subsidy for fuel cell buses and in Shanghai it's $1.1 million and those subsidy programs are in place through 2020 " - Is that correct? Is it possible Randy is confusing RMB with Dollars? I have read fuel cell subsidies for large Bus were 500,000 RMB...Not $1M dollars. I have also read those subsidies start declining in 2017 and phase out completely in 2020. Having Randy imply that they are getting $1M subsidy per bus thru 2020 raises some serious question about the transcript. Did anyone that listened to the call hear him say dollars? Either way there is a HUUUGE difference between $1M and RMB500k...
The only thing inevitable here is that there is always going to be fresh risk takers who see a pot of gold at the end of the hydrogen dream. -
The point is that income is still volatile(lumpy). Ballard has made a profit in the past on a quarterly basis. They just have not found a path to reach a steady enough income stream to reach sustainable profits with any kind of predictable income. Diversifying into portable power with Protonex helps diversify their markets bu their largest income streams are still dependent on Govt. Subsidies.
