No offense but that is some Paleolithic age thinking as it relates to today's business traveler. Connectivity is everything and plays a major role in airline reservations. Recent surveys show a quarter of frequent travelers look for WiFi prior to ticket purchase and hotel reservations. Cant expense work related incidentals? That must have been a downer but not common in today's business world. Offline work can get done but doesn't hold a candle to being accessible for a good portion of the work day. There are several recent studies and surveys accessible online relating to this topic from frequent business travelers... and there are as lot of them...
The problem with your theory is that you are discounting the mobile device revolution and high speed connectivity which is new. People are and tend to want to stay connected and entertained. On the business side communication speed and response time is everything.
