Crime pays ALOT more than flipping burgers or becoming a barrista. the risks go without say but the temptation is ALL AROUND our poor neighborhoods. Fancy cars, ladies, never wanting for anything, not a bad life for a young kid!
Consequences are good for this criminal element in the sense that they are better off being caught by police than facing street justice.
Poverty doesn;t favor ANY SKIN COLOR and never has, it is what our POOR do with the opportunities they have/get from society at large.
HOWARD, the LARGEST REDISTRIBUTION of WEALTH in HUMAN HISTORY has occured IN YOUR LIFETIME, ie, the last half century+. The real issue , the real question is this: WHY DO SO MANY POOR THROW AWAY OPPROTUNITY for a LIFE OF CRIME?
Why? Because a life of crime, despite it's risks (jail/death) pays FAR BETTER than flipping burgers or being a barrista. CRIME has ALWAYS been an AVENUE chosen by MANY throughout recorded HISTORY. Right here in the US, we watched what waves of Irish, Jewish, Italian, (and many others) added up to, a TOTAL MIX like today!
Why we are focussed on SO MANY LOSERS who CHOSE CRIME OVER EDUCATION , and in doing so, choosing to totally IGNORE the MANY WHO DO MAKE IT out of poverty and contributing to society is LUDICROUS!
The ISSUE is CHOICES MADE by each and everyone of us as individuals.
Question Howard, what is the young Af. Amer. at UVA saying when he says he is "the only black on the honor committee..."?
Is he saying he is a token quota monger? is he saying he is good, so disregard his drunk and dislorderly conduct? Is he saying the School is RACIST and the fact that he is the ONLY BLACK on said committiee validates as much? Is he saying he has the right to behave as he wishes because he is black and, on the honor committee?
This false sense of ENTITLEMENT is where so many minorities go wrong. Sharpton has somehow convinced everyone that Whites are guaranteed a good life because of the color of their skin and likewise, blacks are not, because of the color of their skin.
It isn;t about race, it is about maximizing the opportunities you are given and beyond that, create for yourself. it is about hard work, very hard work and a whole lot of luck. Not everyone wins, in fact, few ever win in life the way they want too, but not trying = ZERO.

Cord cutting is usually the function of disposable income though lately, it has been an "in your face" tactic used by consumers and directed at cable usually leading to migration over to NFLX and a growing list of other choices.
A GROWING list of other choices which soon includes HBO and it seems SHO and others are also considering the same moves.
Cable's reluctance to offer consumers an a la carte lineup of the CONSUMERS choice has led to this new work around. The question is, how long will cable GREED continue to cloud business judgement? Bec ause in the meantime, more and more folks are going to walk!
Cable has become as hated as lawyers are ......only cable is in front of it's customers everyday and the cost of cable pops to the forefront every month when the bill is due.
".........and for what!?", seems to be the question more consumers are asking themselves each month as they pay that outrageous cable bill.
A La Carter or auf weidersehn seems to be the question the cable industry is ignoring from a growing number of customers. Oh and programs like basic.....silver or gold? LOL! Later..................
Hey Smithman...not all of us who are "bashing" want to see MCDs fail. I grew near Okabrook, I knew more than a few who worked in Oakbrook. I would love to see MCDs turn a new leaf and it appears, the market is willing to do the same.
However after watching others, fall on their on sword publically by failing to change, you might say alot of us who are negative are trying to PROMPT serious change at MCDs in order to better reflect the MARKET they exist in now which as you know, is VASTLY different than even 10 years ago.
This is not the first dance where MCDs was a no show! MCDs has been through trying times like this before and came out on top, WAY ON TOP of the sector.
Just know that every company has folks in marketing who search for free feedback....who seek suggestions.....or even try to measure the mood-attitude toward a new food, commercial, you get the idea...etc. afterall, they would be fools not too!
So don't think for a minute just because you hold the stock, that negative comments are all intended to bring down the empire so to speak! Hopefully MCDs can regain its rightful place in Burger History by setting the pace rather than playing catch-up ball every 10 years!
If MCDs wants the easy re-entry into the burgerpatch, it should seriously consider BUYING out a few key competitors.......then perhaps cross-pollenating some menu items.....and adding supply channel advantages for both old and new parties in such a merging.
Keep old names of buyouts as well as management teams where possible and become a GE of fastfood! Build/expand the A-Z processes involved.....and consider other fastfood or PRODUCTs under the MCD umbrella...again..keep buyout firms name on the label....if choice is wrong,..build and spin-off.
I hate to say it and no insult to Kmart or Mcd's but it just isn;t COOL to go to either anymore and BOOMERs are seeking out the occasional unique burger players compounded by fewer burgers in the first place hacing given way to heathier choices...in casual-fast places beyond (again sorry- Denny's), Denny's!
MCDs has Sears Roebucked itself! I hate saying that because my Father worked at Sears for over 35 years.
It seems the pattern of OLD giving way to the NEW is simple....the New pick-up right where the OLD stopped innovating...and seriously modifying.changing to meet the times. While MCDs did so.........it added much to the menu at the cost of YIELDING to newcomers in the BURGER PATCH!
Identity crisis rules the day at MCDs...the most recent debacle.....of note................chicken wings. I don;t know the solution but it seems buying new players out in the PATCH, is a healthy start! NO, not WENDY's OR Burgerking!
Way back when Mr "K" start a fantastic burger business plan, FASTFOOD was born! The burgerpatch moved byeond Mom-n-Pop burger joints.
MCDs became the burger pace horse. New stores popped up nationwide for DECADES! The Boomer generation was there to feed off of MCDs for decades and well, over a half century. MCDs prices/convenience/and CONSISTENCY trained both customers and THE COMPETITION. Burgerking and others followed. Today the burgerpatch has proliferated to include SPECIALTY burger joints that offer a unique taste, a higher quality meal using the same model of CONVENIENCE, CONSISTENCY, and speed.
It seems to me that MCDs got lost trying to be everything to everyone. Meanwhile the drive-thru line at an In-N-Out Burger place is CONSTANTLY stacked up with WAITING customers! Why? Consumers did not abandon the Burgerpatch, MCDs did.
When a customer wants a good burger/fries/and shake, he no longer goes to MCDs. This is MCDs challenge and it is the ONLY WAY out of the business death maze leading to an entry into the Smithsonian to be only remembered for what it once was.right next to Woolworth's and so many other BUSINESSES that TRAINED their own competition, and ultimately handed over the reigns to those LEADING the industry trends just as a MCDs once did! Buh bye MCDs, enjoy your overseas success and remember, nipping at your heels are those you have trained who have improved and thus bypassed your example.
I reiterate.....MCDs, the business model for a Burger Joint is right there in front of you, In-N-Out Burger.
Fastfood as a choice was once dominated by you but now, after watching the proliferation of numerous such business models......combined with a health driven consumer.....and the biggest demographic shift in human history upon us......(IE Boomers are now the old kermugeons)...your business model needs to change or die....others will likely face the same but NOTE: People who WANT A BURGER....are going elsewhere now...to get a real burger...or certainly what they perceive as a real burger.
MCDs has become the KMart of the burger patch. Sorry Kmart! Sorry MCDs! But I think the comparison accurately defines the moment.
I have CARB 2 labelled flooring and after reading the California info. referred by 60 minutes this whole thing seems like much ado about nothing.......IMHO..............guess I'll put my baseboards on tomorrow!
Yes, I believe so though if memory serves, when I asked if it was 1000 island decades ago, i was told it is sinilar to 1000 island.
Way back when, when MCDs brought the Big Mac to market, I was a teenager and the BIG MAC was the king of the burger patch! I remember asking for MAC sauce even when I was just ordering a few cheeseburgers...and MCDs obliged! Wow, what a tasty cheeseburger(s) experience that was........later...like within a year, I was told MCDs could no longer offer up only MAC SAUCE for those wanting it. of course this was back in MCDs discovery/growth period during the pinnacle of the Boomer generation and then over the next 30 years of Boomer/Family consumption via the DRIVE-THRU which it seems lasted up to the 10 cheeseburgers for 10 bucks era of the late 1990's and I think MCDs started it's slide soon after, when animal rights groups stood outside Drive-Thru's trying to embarrass those buying burgers.
This gace way to MCDs shift toward a more healthy....menu with broader choices salads...etc., etc.
I believe this is when MCDs really tried to change with the changing times and forgot the BURGER , shake, and fries is WHY people primarily went to MCDs.....now coffee/smoothies have added but everything else......is little more than INVENTORY cost IMHO......... .
Sorry for the diatribe.....it's interestting to see other burger places succeed while MCDs has it's head in the sand...fat, dumb, and happy..................oops......it's been awhile for even that feeling in Oakbrook, I'm sure....................MCDs made one very HUGE mistake in the restaurant business and that is it's attempt to become EVERYTHING to EVERYONE. In the process, they have even lost the Burger Mongers.........and thus, MCDs has given birth to it's own competition Nationwide as the ole burger shack tpe Mom and Pop caliber/quality/tasting Burger has proliferated thanks to boring ole MCDs offering. Even their new burgers look like gray hockey pucks half the time!
No contest and THAT is what is wrong with the burger patch in general. In-N-Out serves BURGERS only...in fact they have only 3 combo meals, the double-double, chesseburger, and hamburger.
Go check the drive-thru lines at ANY big BURGER CHAIN and compare to In-N-Out Burger..................oh and an ABSOLUTE IGNORANCE of demographic consumerism............IE BOOMERS are dying...they NEED HEALTHY...and where a trip to MCDs may have been a almost weekly routine, and for some nearly daily routine while on the road etc.// today (?), well today I find myself at MCDs at best, about once per quarter.........

on my LL purchased , Carb 2 made in china, Bamboo Carnonate flooring.................no wonder it was on sale at 1.99 sq ft..clearance...bought last NOV, got around to it Feb 2015........just now putting baseboards in..........all for not...........
