    Actual medallion sales report...

And don't forget, the company has diversified from taxi loans and now gets more than half its earnings from small business loans in the NYC area. So whichever way the wind blows the company has hedged and should continue to grow. I don't think NYC is going out of business any time soon....

".....Medallion Financial Corp. (TAXI), a specialty finance company operating in the U.S., is a company that could be an interesting play for investors. That is because, not only does the stock have decent short-term momentum, but it is seeing solid activity on the earnings estimate revision front as well.

These positive earnings estimate revisions suggest that analysts are becoming more optimistic on TAXI’s earnings for the coming quarter and year. In fact, consensus estimates have moved sharply higher for both of these time frames over the past four weeks, suggesting that Medallion Financial could be a solid choice for investors.

    Current Quarter Estimates for TAXI

In the past 30 days, 1 estimate has gone higher for Medallion Financial with no downward revision in the same time period. The trend has been pretty favorable too, with estimates increasing from 25 cents per share 30 days ago, to 29 cents a share today, a move of 16%.

    Current Year Estimates for TAXI

Meanwhile, Medallion Financial’s current year figures have seen 1 estimate moving higher in the past month, compared to no downward revision. The consensus estimate trend has also seen a boost for this time frame, increasing from 97 cents per share 30 days ago to $1.14 per share today, an increase of 17.5%.

    Bottom Line

The stock has also started to move higher lately, adding 8.6% over the past four weeks, suggesting that investors are starting to take note of this impressive story. So investors may definitely want to consider this Zacks Rank #2 (Buy) stock to profit in the near future...."

It looks like there's little downward tragectory....in any case it's immaterial as I quoted before....

"Medallion has been diversifying away from the taxi business for years. Consumer and commercial loans now bring in most of the company's profits, wrote Sandler O'Neill analyst Alexander Twerdahl in a note to investors...."

That's why they keep reporting record profits - what part of that don't you understand shortie....?

    Technicals pointing to upward trend

    by bohleyman Aug 10, 2014 1:37 PM
bohleyman bohleyman Aug 12, 2014 11:11 AM Flag

Fact: Medallion Financial reported earnings Monday that were the highest in nearly a decade. At a time when everyone expects the company to take a hit, its margins are actually increasing.

But Medallion has been diversifying away from the taxi business for years. Consumer and commercial loans now bring in most of the company's profits, wrote Sandler O'Neill analyst Alexander Twerdahl in a note to investors this week.

"We think that the quarterly results demonstrated the disconnect that has emerged between the short thesis on the stock (ride sharing apps will hurt the taxicab industry, and TAXI has exposure) and Medallion's actual business model and earnings power," he wrote.

I trade on FACTS....not opinions - eventually earnings and pps have to come together. Investors just have to be patient while the shorts and MM's manipulate the hell out of the stock price. Simple fundamentals.

Sorry troll, you'll have to forget this one.....way over your IQ. Go back to the two cabbies fighting story - that was amusing. Nothing to do with the company, but amusing....

  • NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Aug 8, 2014) - Cornerstone Progressive Return Fund (NYSE MKT: CFP) (the "Fund"), a closed-end management investment company, today announced that the Fund is declaring the following distributions:

In mid-February Medallion reported record full-year earnings of $1.16 per share as its net interest margin expanded 35 basis points and its dividend jumped to its highest point in 13 years. In addition, not a single one of its medallion loans was more than 90 days delinquent, which speaks to the phenomenal credit quality of its portfolio. Simply put, you can't find many financial-service companies that will deliver a net interest margin of nearly 6.7% in this anemic interest rate environment. All the rest are mere rumors....

I agree - digestion of the lowered share PPS due to the second SPO is going to take a bit longer than the first......but ultimately it will recover. Sit tight and collect over 17% while you're waiting....

No doubt a fund selling out (they hit the button at 3:40pm) - heavy volume day too. The price action has been saying someone was selling even before the divi....now it's clear.
