Any idea of what parts and pieces HIMX is supplying? I know HIMX is working with just about everyone for something.
Going only on my feeble memory, I got the impression that he mentioned that the last write down was $175 mil. To me, it was said to give a reference to the magnitude of the upcoming adjustment, implying that it would be similar. I don't think I have the fortitude to listen to the entire call again.
I don't think so. Management is extremely conservative, stone faced, and careful about what they say. They don't need temporary run ups to become filthy rich. They are doing it by building an awesome company. No smoke or mirrors needed.
I made good money in the Manning and Escala days. It seemed to have a future but I fortunately got out on top. Now it is pretty much defunct or at least not recognizable. Lots of money must have been lost by folks along the way.
I followed and owned this years ago under a different moniker. I went to Investor Village to check on something else but nothing was posted for years. So then I checked the CAMP board since I knew there was a lot of activity there and it was dead for about a year or would be longer if it wasn't for sugah city. Glad to see some familiar names.
That was before it almost went bankrupt and had to sell some the best parts of its business to stay afloat. I don't follow it now so I can't comment on its future but is sure isn't what it could have been.
I just listened to the replay. They did a very good job of presenting and answering questions especially concerning amtrust. It was worth the time
xrayflourishes gives a great perspective. Averaging in sounds like a good idea. I can't imagine LCOS not going into Google Glass but if it doesn't, LCOS will be used elsewhere. In any case, Himax is bringing in great results with the current business. The big unknown is the overall market as xray points out.
Good questions and answers. The two major types of image detectors are CMOS and CCD. Himax is using CMOS technology. The more applications and advantages of CMOS over CCD, the better it is for Himax even if they are not used in this particular application.
Yes, there are a lot of possibilities and all of them are good.
It is easy to see through those that hate others that work hard and are successful through their own efforts.
Probably just the time value of money. Why put out cash before you have too? I doubt if many people send money to their utility companies before they get a bill even though they know they will be eventually using the services.
Have you been able to do better with the trading positions than holding during this recent run-up? I don't have the guts or knowledge to do much short term trading this time around since I think the upside is so great. In any case, you can get some decent returns without tying up too much capital that way.
Thanks for starting an interesting discussion.
Here is my analysis. At the time, I did it the stock was at $11.8 and the preferred shares were at $46.5.
If the stock price did not change over two years, the total return would be +7.5% for the stock (assuming dividends over the two years stayed at 0.44/yr) and 17.8% for the preferred ($7.25 in divis and an increase in stock price to $47.55).
If the stock price hit $13 in two years, the total return for the stock would be +17.6% (0.88 in divis and 1.2 in cap gains) and the total return for the preferred would be 23.1% (7.25 in divis and a capital gain of 3.5)
If the stock price hit $15.5, the total return for the stock would be +38.8% (0.88 in divis and 3.7 cap gain), while the perferred still returns 23.1% (7.25 divis and still cap gain of 3.5)
In summary, the preferred give a better return if the stock ends in 2 years below the break even stock price of $13.64 per share. The stock gives a better return if the stock ends above the break even price of $13.64 per share. I guess the pricing implies that the market is expecting the stock to be about $13.64 in two years. Maybe somewhat less since there may be a discount on the preferreds for the possible downside and limited upside.
Please let me know if something needs clarification or if I got something wrong. Of course, there are also a million other strategies and possibilities if you want to convert shares early or something like that.
Why are you getting on his case when he actually had some good posts? Yes he probably has a motive but so do others that frequently post on this board. Is it OK to have misinformation as long as it supports your motives???
