OK, I have not done a good job at promoting the contest. Instead I have been watching my net worth drop this week as some of my holding pull back. I am still here with my last minute picks.
OFIX - I have been reviewing some old stock evaluations and this one looks cheap by historical standards. There have been a couple of lack luster quarters but the outlook for their spinal implants and tissue products still looks good. Everyone is getting older yada yada yada including me. I do not currently own but plan to soon.
HIMX - It is not cheap but experiencing some big growth in small displays such as head mounted Google Glass. I am not sure if earnings will catch up to the hype but the latest price of around $9.50 has backed off from a recent spike into +$11. It will depend on upcoming earnings and timing of any further product hype with the end of the contest. Not my first choice, but I can't let b_fr_nk run away with the contest being the only taker and it decides to run further. I buy and sell but do own a bunch currently
QCCO - Payday loan companies are often cheaply valued due to the constant threat of new government regulation. This one seems one of the more undervalued. I looks like earnings may come out after the end of the contest but the dividend payment might make it. It has been yielding +8%. I don't own but may take a small position soon.
"By the way, how's the prospect of New River Valley? You are near Wytheville, Right?"
Yes near Wytheville but closer to Galax. I am assuming you are talking about the area in general and not some institution. Things seem to be the same in the last two years that we have been here. Being an investor, I don't get out into the community as much as when I was employed outside the home. Furniture was a big industry before most of the factories were shut down some years ago due to foreign competition. Last year, one re-opened but I wouldn't say the area is going anywhere fast. A recent report listed the area as having one of the highest unemployment rates. Another recent report listed it as having the one of the largest increases in tourism revenue in the state. Overall, I would say it is a wash and is not terrible nor experiencing any significant growth.
I agree with your comment on INBK on "only to a degree". I was surprised though that is was as much as it was. My comments should have stated "help fill only a portion of the gap"
Thanks for your post!!!
How do you know what the PE is since they have not restated earnings or put them out for the last few quarters? Unless I am mistaken, won't earnings drop by 1/3 to 1/2??? That would also take down the book value and equity. It seems like a solid company but not sure with what we are dealing.
It looks like the backlog reported in Q3 is down slightly but still looking good in my estimation. Hopefully it will trickle down to the bottom line. How was your factory visit???
I am always amazed with the confusion over the dividends. I agree with your estimate but my fidelity software shows the 24th of October. Good of you to pass along that info to others. I am looking to start another contest. I believe that is how I ended up making some nice $s of this stock. Thanks!!!
I have been a buyer at these lower prices. I will hang on through another cash accumulation phase and collect the next special dividend if they announce one.
I agree and appreciate your posts and viewpoint even when I don't agree.
I did very well a while ago with EZPW and some of the pawn/payday loan outfits. They seem to look cheap again now but have not had a chance to look closely. I will this weekend. I always watched CLCT but never jumped in.
Sorry, I am not ignoring you folks but have been preoccupied with some out of town guests. Earnings season is upon us and it would be boring to have something stretch out for 3 months when most of the action is going to happen in the next few weeks. How about if we start a 4 week contest a week from Monday 10/28/13 and ending on Friday 11/22/13??? I will try to start a longer contest shortly there after. I might even try a shorting contest and some other variations over the colder months if there is interest.
I have not looked at this stock for awhile. I did not know that Farrell passed away which is one of the reasons I was a shareholder at times. That is too bad and very disappointing as I enjoyed his commentary. I think I also saw that the CFO Fagan recently resigned also.
Any weakness in share price is due to interest rate moves and outlook and management is in no way to be blamed. The investor should understand the risks. A#1 company.
Wow! It is reassuring to see that some things don't change. Glad to see you db and mandy on the board. I was a lurker back in the GMAI / Escala days under a different name. Made a lot of money and got lucky and got out before it hit the fan. Not sure why any of us are here. Just nostalgia for me.
I have followed it even less than you but I do agree that it looks like a solid and promising company. I now own some shares.
Changing the number of shares does nothing. .... repeat ... nothing. It doesn't change the % of float someone has to move if they are looking to buy or sell a certain dollar amount. I doesn't matter if there are twice as many shares available. You still have to move twice as many shares to get the same dollar amount.
