    PD price

    by bellbell63 Jun 18, 2015 11:55 AM

The price of these metals (PT and PD), like a lot of other commodities, bear no relationship to underlying market fundamentals any more. With all this business with Russia in the Ukraine, the usual and growing South African woes, strong vehicle demand, etc. these prices should be going UP! Yet they drift down. As long as the Fed has its hands on the economy and markets they will keep metal prices low as to discourage hard money. But I don't think they can do this forever even though I must admit I am amazed they have done it all so well for so long.

    P.S.
I bet the Feds raise rates faster and higher than anyone thinks. This is the game they play. First the setup then the slaughter. I am really betting on t his all through TMV - a very high risk high reward vehicle.

Well stated morristhomas51. As to heavy versus light sweet versus sour oil; this is where it gets a little complicated. These terms come from the old days where the Texans and other oil folk used to physically touch and taste oil to categorize it ( imagine being a professional oils taster; what a nasty job!).

My understanding is that refineries can be configured to process various type of oil. When it is "cracked" it is broken down into various components. But as usual this all probably comes down to time, effort, and cost.

The big controversy now is transporting shale oil by rail tank car and all the risks associated with it. I read that some think it is way more volitile than "regular" oil and "heavier" but who really knows.

Over the last few years the Russians have been openly buying gold and adding to their hoards at the same time selling some of their platinum and palladium stockpiles. I think it would be a smart move for a government to hold hard assets and buy now as they are relatively cheap. So I don't doubt it.

  • I think this may be the major reason the US has not been really active as the Mideast unwinds again. They just are not that important any more as our oil. We have spent enough treasure and lives trying to help them to no avail. The have been at each others throats for thousands of years (read the Bible, etc.) and proably will be for going forward. I say good ridence! GO USA!

YOU are the man , or woman, as the case may be! While all the "Nervous Nelles" were dumping and heading for the hills ... you not only held the line but .... WERE BUYING!

I just read that the US overtook Russia as the world's largest oil producer. GREAT! About time!

Wahabism is like the "state religion of Saudi Arabia" and there have been artticles about how deals have been struck with the Royal Family and the Wahabi religious leaders over the decades. However, ISIL I think could be a "Frankenstein" that they inadvertantly fostered and now threatens them.

Your figures are very impressive and I agree with your SA assessment generally. But the BIG problem again is really psychological. We gave tons and tons of equipment to Iraq and now are in the totally bizarre position of having to send more equipment to Iraq IN THE HOPE that they will use it to destory th equipment we have already sent there.

But even though the Saudi military and security services are generally very high caliber and the Royal Family, through bloodlines, can count on a couple of hundred thousand; it still is a huge, huge country with millions of foreign workers and citizens of wavering support that have to be bought off.

Remember most of the dictators that have fallen in the Middle East had, on the surface, had vast military and security supporting them but still went; even though one can make the case the US greased the skids. SO when it comes to the ME; we can't take anything for granted.

I have been posting about the hell breaking out in the Middle East. The media has been covering but nearly as much as it should. And YET .... OIL GOES NOWHERE! It just goes to show you how all this rigged. The markets are totally divorced from reality and completely manipulated!

  • Former Speaker of the House, Dennis Hasert, has recently been indicted on child molestion charges for violating a young boy.

Years ago a guy was arrested during a parade in Batavia, IL or throwing a water ballon at Denny for assualt on a Presidential Successor, Member of Congress, etc.: a severe felony charge with many years of jail possible.

At the time Hasert was dressed as a clown driving his fire engine and this was the defense this guy used; he had no idea it was the Speaker of the House and it was only meant as a "clown" joke. But I did think it was very, very odd that someone like such a prominent politician would be dressed as a clown. These politicians normally like to march at the front of any parade and be recognized. Plus I remembered John Wayne Gacy the mass boy murderer who used to be dressed as a clown. And I have seen other stories about these deviates dressing as clowns or cartoon characeters to get close to kids.

If I was McDonald's I would ditch their clown guy as a symbol!

  • My friend knows an operator who has 14 franchisees in North Florida. They barely make what they made with 3 years ago and have several times the problems. They want out badly.

And now this, from Barron's 051115 page 29:
"By streamlining and pushing more cororate costs onto franchisees. McDonald's expects to cut $300 million in yearly overhead."

But do the honchos in Oak Brook HQ really believe the franchisees can take much more? Why don't the honchos in Oak Brook cut their personal French chefs, their limos, their helicopters, their art galleries, their gardens, gyms, polo fields, Lake Fred sailing, etc. etc.? Oak Brook HQ is a palace that should go!

    From the Reuters wires 05/25/15:

The seizures of Ramadi and Palmyra were Islamic State's biggest successes since a U.S.-led coalition launched an air war against it last year.

The near simultaneous victories against the Iraqi and Syrian armies have forced Washington to examine its strategy of bombing from the air while leaving fighting on the ground to local forces.

American policy towards ISIL and the Middle East is in total disarry. The American Secretary of Defense, who should know, says ISIL is advancing and Iraq forces retreating. Biden and the White House strongly disagee. One US gerneral says his US troops, who were supposed to be just "advisors" have had to actually fight as Iraq forces fall back, Iran has sent troops and now says Elite Republican Guard units may be deployed. Sad to say this is all very bad news in gerneral BUT GREAT NEWS FOR AMERICAN SHALE OIL PRODUCERS! US OIL WILL SURGE!

Our so-c alled "allies" have promised to bomb any oil fields that fall into ISIL hands and look like they will stay in their control. A couple of small fields have already been bombed. But it is complete chaos over there and no one really seems to know what is going on for sure.
