Awhile back I compiled a list of large SWC stockholders. If I recall, about two dozen owned like 75% of the stock outstanding. They don't seem to play it. Unlike my other metal stocks, like NG, SSRI, etc. that go up and down like yayos - SWC is fairly stable. Maybe they are holding it as "insurance" just in case Africa and Russia's pl production goes down,
Admittedly women and minorities CEOs do not do that well in corporate America for whatever reason.
Let us take our CEO. Here is a black man who worked his way up out of the wretched slums of Cabrini Green in the Chicago ghettos. He became and electrical engineer out of Notre Dame - no small accomplishment. But his background in food was very marginal at best.
My take: he got the CEO Job because he was a minority who transformed himself very well into an icon of white corporate America: college educated, polished, good-looking, polo playing, social able, media savvy, and a good image for MCD's minorities, etc. etc. - in short he was a political appointee. I would rather have a fat black man, or whatever, who loved chowing down on burgers with a high school degree who really knew the business that some slick MBA no matter what their color !
Yet another competitor to eat MCD .. UP!
From the wires on 01/30/15:
"Wall Street is apparently craving burgers. The hamburger chain Shake Shack priced shares above an increased range, raising $105 million in its initial public offering as shares began trading Friday."
It is time that MCD's top executive's stopped living the high life of Louis XIV in their palace in their Oak Brook, IL HQ! It is time they stop eating meals prepared by top Hyatt chefs there! I say put in a working MCD there and let them see first hand how poorly their system works and the quality of the food and insanely slow service, I bet after a week of them experiencing their own products we would see massively needed changes quickly!
Bring back The SIR SPEEDDDDDY SYSTEM!
Now is the time for MCD to get rid of its overly complicated system and VERY SLOW system with its insane amount sof complexity and confusion. Bring back the original system of only 9 offerings delivered in LESS THAN 3 minutes! People are not coming to MCD for a gourmat meal! They just want sonething decent, cheap and ABOVE ALL FAST!!!!
I and others have long been advocating the MCD get off the disasterous course Ron Thompson set for MCD. His final act of iiotcy was ordering more customization to a menu that already is overly complicated, slow to fill, and costly! I say good riddance!
No, I am not trying to get GDP down, the Arabs and Russians are doing it; plus I am just one person!
I am trying to get people to wake up and save our oil industry by DEMANDING that Congress act to save it from our enemies!
Hot off the KItco Wires:
"Goldman Sachs’s Cohn Says Oil Prices May Hit $30 in Extended Slump "
On the TV last night othere was a story of some f 50,000 plus leaving oil rich Alaska as production there PLUNGES some 70% from its peak. Also a story on boom toom oil rich North Dakoa starting to slow down!
SAVE AMERICAN SHALE PRODUCTION! DEMAND CONGRESS ACT! TAX IMPORTED ENERGY!
Well now we know why IAG dropped Friday: INSIDER TRADING!
This report that hit Monday AM must have been known by insiders Friday! See below:
Today's News, January 26, 2015
HSBC Earlier Downgraded Several Gold Names: Agnico Eagle, Goldcorp from Overweight to Neutral, IAMGOLD from Overweight to Underweight
IAG was not the only miner hit hard Friday; all my miners where too and I track over a dozen.
It was a little surprising but then again Fridays, and particulatly in the afternoon, are bad for miners. But I thought the Greek vote ( they voted a radical govt in) would bolster metals in that as Europe unwinds one would think that investors would want a safe haven,
The auto industry is very cyclical and a down turn was expected to start in 2016. However with cheap oil it seems people are back to buying multiple vehichles and particularly larger more expensive ones. Also this is true in China and particularly for GM there.
And let us not forget the big one ... Europe. Gas has been much higher there and their economy much weaker than ours. If they improve, this should be very good for increased auto sales there!
Sentiment: Strong Buy
That re-opening of an old platinum mine in Alaska (did not know they ever had them!) has been disaterous. The Feds have moved on them for pollution and several investors have been arrested for this and maybe fraud.
Also, some of the new mines being launched n ZIm and SA have also run into difficulties. Heck SA and ZIm have enough trouble keeping what they got going let alone launch new ones!
Sentiment: Strong Buy
Sunshine, I think this is a smart move. TMV has to be at or near the bottom.
My gravy train, TMV, has de-railed! Still in it though.
The Fed has to raise rates and soon. A lot of experts now believe there is a huge bubble in real estate like in 07 and they have to cool it sooner than later. And remember it generally takes 6 months or so for the effects of rate increases to take effect. So I think, and hope, they will raise rates, maybe as soon as this week.
As reported in the WSJ of 01/21/15 the Russians are producing oil like mad and buying equipment from Schlumberger like crazy to even produce more as their economy is desperate for dollars! Gas below $ 1 a gal? Who would have taught?
Milk has skyrocketed to over $4 a gallon while gas has dropped below a dollar. How wierd is this???
Last week Saudi Prince Alwaleed said oil will never return to $100 again and that the price crash will allow Saudi Arabia to see "how many shale oil production companies run out of business."
DON'T count your barrels yet! The Saudi State Council is firmly in control and on-board with increasing production. Remember oil can go as low as $30 and they still will make money!
I doubt it very much! The ruling State Council has been running things really for a long while and are totally on-board with increasing production. Remember their costs can be as low as $20 to $30 a barrel and still break-even because their oil is easy to get and they have a massive state-of-the-art infra-structure and delivery system.
Will oil SURGE NOW ??? I think ... NOT!
His Majesty often was often referred to as "the living dead" and the princes and government have been dealing effectively with this all for some time. The security forces are very effective: averaging a beheading a day and all key players in the inner circle seem to be behaving themselves.
Remember in Saudi Arabia, the real citizens generally come from a very cohesive tribal background and you don't have the diversity that exists in other Middle Eastern countries. Why I have read that there are thousands of princes and something like 20% of the native Saudis are related to the royals and greatly benefit from them; so there is no real incentive to rebel!
