LOL. Actually if I were old I would be thrilled by all the healthcare and other benefits that I'm getting on the backs of future generations who will end up footing the bill. No, I just happen to own a calculator and actuarial table...I know math is something liberals hate to consider because it really doesn't care about self-righteous bloviating. Let me pose a non-ideological set of facts and you tell me how you think this can continue:
1) Since 1933 (yes that dreaded date) the average span of retirements has gone from 2 to 20 years.
2) The first recipient of SS (Ida May Fuller) put in less than $100, lived be one hundred and took out $24,000 in benefits. But she was an anomaly back then . And 45 people pitched in for every retiree. Now it's 3.5 (we're living longer). By the time the baby boomers retire it will be 2:1.
3) Since 2008 every day for the next 20 years 10,000 people a day will reach retirement age. 85+ will be the fastest growing population segment in the USA and by 2030 the entire USA will have an average age of Florida today. An 85 year old spends 5X as much as a 55 year old on healthcare. 40% of medicare recipients live with three or more once-fatal disease now managed by pharmacology. How do you propose to pay for them all? How much money do you propose we borrow -- which means transfer money from the young to the old?
4) You tell me, with seniors as the most ardent voting block, what politician in their right mind will ever confront this question: How much should we spend on the last twenty years of a persons life? 35% of medicare payments go to the last 12 months. You tell me who will tell the truth.
You liberals had high ideals. You just couldn't see the future. And now that it's here you, not me, still insist it's the 1930s. Unfortunately for you, calculators just give results. They don't judge. You sacrificed the future of this country for a brief period of nanny state coddling. And now the check is coming. Thanks.
Doesn't matter. It is liberal entitlements that will eventually drive us to bankruptcy and extinction anyway. You guys charted this path for the nation back in 1933. Just took some time for the demographics to catch up with the map. Medicair and Medicaid and SS will drive us into default eventually. Then all the breast-beating in the world won't alter the math that could care less about politics. I hope you don't have young kids. Your policies will assure they have no future.
