I see that the Nihon Keizai newspaper reported a story today involving IIJ and Fujitsu Research Inst. It says that beginning in May they will team up to provide "big data" services and 30 other firms are already on board. That explains the rapid share price increase the past few days which I missed.Kudos to holders.
My money is on another firm in the big data business in Japan.

IIJ added 132 new employees on 4/1 which is the start of a new fiscal year in japan. many engineers but also a large number of sales staff. this is 11 more than in 2013 and almost double than the # of hires in 2012.

closed my position(for now) when we hit 2500 this afternoon. surprised, but delighted, we went up so much so quickly. i certainly won't be ignoring IIJ going forward.
i read in the japanese press this month that Aeon, a large dept. store chain, will be offering very cheap cellular service that will undercut the prices of other providers by almost 50%.
a lot of IIJ's ATM's are in Aeon stores so it's not much of a stretch to infer that Aeon may take advantage of IIJ's internet backbone to offer this new cheap cell service. that could be what's been driving the steep stock price upswing.

bgr-the PR team at IIJ put this news on their web page(2-14) but only in japanese.
that's very much a disservice to foreign investors and shouldn't be tolerated. you've complained to them in the past but it seems they need to hear the message again from you and others. it's unacceptable.

bought at the close or 1 minute before when we broke the 1800 yen barrier. haven't seen levels this low in well over a year. some of the more conservative funds here with IIJ in their portfolio are forced into selling when losses reach a certain percentage or the price falls below fixed points.
i'm about 16% down with my stake but not dissuaded.

    2 million shares;mind-blowing.
right;management doesn't seem to care whatsoever for the little guy but that's always been their approach.
i also agree with the point about somebody being in the know before numbers were released.
we could easily go lower. i'm aware of that and hope to make even bigger purchases if it goes that way.
remember the CEO has over 5% of the shares so he has a lot of skin in the game.

great opportunity but could get greater
    added heavy again at 1885

  • brightassembly by brightassembly Feb 6, 2014 11:01 PM Flag

numbers came in weaker than expected and there is a revision downward as well.
hasn't that info already been factored in? (we fell from 2900 to 2400 in the past month)
i bought rather heavy at 2049 just now but we might go under 2000. i'm happy to keep buying if we keep falling.

went as low as 2208 today. i added at 2248.
check out the PR posted today on their web site; IIJ Singapore is now up and running- a new data centre and a full line-up of services. IIJ is spreading it's wings more and more outside japan.

another extraordinary day just finished in tokyo. i feel wired and calm simultaneously. fact;IIJ was down another 6% but i passed. why? on the jasdaq and mothers markets(small caps and mid-caps) in japan 74 stocks fell by more than 15%! i concentrated my purchases on 1 company and watched as a wave of selling battered many investors here. the nikkei rose 56% in 2013 and many predicted great returns again this year so margin ballooned. margin has destroyed and will destroy many people.
this may sound perverse but i am hoping for a repeat of this activity tonight in NY and more of the same in japan tomorrow.
too many people, funds and governments are using extreme leverage in their accounts and there might be dire consequences for them and great bargains for others.
IIJ announces earnings in just a few days.
lots of balls to juggle. it ain't easy. good luck everyone.

small cap tech panic selling in japan, especially great co.'s with large margin. people are getting squeezed. an excellent time to buy. many small cap tech stocks are limit down. i'm holding off on more purchases of IIJ because of the small cap tech chaos.

down 6% today. many tech stocks in japan fell over 10%. softbank lost almost 7%.
also volume was the highest it's been since august.
these are the requirements needed to make large profits(or obviously suffer great losses).
i'm undeterred and though my position is still not large an excellent chance may soon beckon.
we know IIJ has added employees and that they are making significant capex moves in japan and abroad so the numbers for this friday's ER may disappoint.

added at 2411. the Nikkei IT sector is being savaged since last week. an over-reaction IMO.
will buy more aggressively if we fall more.
the election for mayor of tokyo in mid-feb. is important. a former prime minister (hosokawa) is running to banish nuclear energy from japan's future. if he were to win (unlikely) it would be very negative for energy hogs like IIJ which has data centres all over japan.

    tried again at 2511
found an article in japanese press stating that IIJ will be deploying their pre-fab modular data units to counties in asia like indonesia and vietnam. why isn't this info in a PR on their web site?

added lightly again, this time at the close of 2652. i've been thru this process many times and usually come out ahead. did tech stocks here do poorly today because of apple or another factor? beats me.
aim to buy more if the price keeps sliding.

added relatively lightly this afternoon at 2747. we will possibly go much lower but probably go higher before next week's ER. i should have waited until just before the close to buy but you own your errors. investors are skittish but volatility is a friend if you exercise control.
