One stock that might be an intriguing choice for investors right now is Transocean Ltd. (RIG). This is because this security in the Oil & Gas Drilling space is seeing solid earnings estimate revision activity, and is in great company from a Zacks Industry Rank perspective.

This is important because, often times, a rising tide will lift all boats in an industry, as there can be broad trends taking place in a segment that are boosting securities across the board. This is arguably taking place in the Oil & Gas Drilling space as it currently has a Zacks Industry Rank of 56 out of more than 250 industries, suggesting it is well-positioned from this perspective, especially when compared to other segments out there.

Meanwhile, Transocean is actually looking pretty good on its own too. The firm has seen solid earnings estimate revision activity over the past month, suggesting analysts are becoming a bit more bullish on the firm’s prospects in both the short and long term.

In fact, over the past month, current quarter estimates have risen from 64 cents a share to 70 cents a share, while current year estimates have risen from $4.51 per share to $4.58 per share. The company currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold), which is also a favorable signal.

So, if you are looking for a decent pick in a strong industry, consider Transocean. Not only is its industry currently in the top third, but it is seeing solid estimate revisions as of late, suggesting it could be a very interesting choice for investors seeking a name in this great industry segment.

STOCKS TO BUY: TheStreet Quant Ratings has identified a handful of stocks that can potentially TRIPLE in the next 12 months. Learn more.

TheStreet Ratings rates Transocean as a buy. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its growth in earnings per share, compelling growth in net income, attractive valuation levels, expanding profit margins and good cash flow from operations. We feel these strengths outweigh the fact that the company has had lackluster performance in the stock itself.

Highlights from the ratings report include:
◾ TRANSOCEAN LTD reported significant earnings per share improvement in the most recent quarter compared to the same quarter a year ago. The company has demonstrated a pattern of positive earnings per share growth over the past two years. We feel that this trend should continue. During the past fiscal year, TRANSOCEAN LTD increased its bottom line by earning $3.88 versus $2.24 in the prior year. This year, the market expects an improvement in earnings ($4.57 versus $3.88).
◾ The net income growth from the same quarter one year ago has significantly exceeded that of the S&P 500 and the Energy Equipment & Services industry. The net income increased by 91.2% when compared to the same quarter one year prior, rising from $307.00 million to $587.00 million.
◾ 47.90% is the gross profit margin for TRANSOCEAN LTD which we consider to be strong. It has increased from the same quarter the previous year. Along with this, the net profit margin of 25.21% significantly outperformed against the industry average.
◾ Net operating cash flow has significantly increased by 52.88% to $636.00 million when compared to the same quarter last year. The firm also exceeded the industry average cash flow growth rate of 27.28%.

  • and as such would be more interested in saving jobs than making money for Mr. Ackman. I fully expect the FTC to rule in favor of HLF, but will not be surprised if someone doesn't tip him off before the news is released, so he can cover his shorts. I know that insider trading is illegal, but that doesn't seem to stop a lot of it from going on.

    Cynical on the Markets

  • He obviously thinks HLF is going to come out on top in this matter. I would tend to agree as hundreds of thousands of jobs will go down if the FTC classifies HLF, Amway, Blythe and other similar companies as pyramids. My guess is that they will rule that companies of this kind will need to make some minor changes to their business models, many which have already been enacted.

JMHO as only time will tell.

That's funny; they could just as well take until this time next year to make an announcement and when they do, HLF could be fully exonerated.
