Wow! $290 in 2008 and about $9.00 today. What happened?
Here's another success for Brazil. I was checking out an MSC repositioning cruise from Venice Italy to Santos Brazil (near Sao Paulo) in November. I asked how I would get from Santos to the Sao Paulo airport, to fly home. Not a problem, the agent said, but you must have a Brazil Visa. My passport won't work for the one hour drive to the airport. What does the Visa cost? $290.00 per person ($580.00 for my wife and I). We decided against the cruise.
In other words, everyone who traveled to see the World Cup spent $290 for a Visa! Brazil lost the game, but the government was a huge winner.
I realize some rules are difficult to accept, but Target is asking its Texas customers to not bring their assault rifles into the store. The reason, I suppose, it makes it difficult to tell a #$%$ from a good guy, plus it makes the checkout clerks nervous. So get brave, rifle totters, and brave the killing field inside Target with only knives and hand guns.
Where did the $1.2 billion come from? Did you look at the AA Balance Sheet? They have a lot more than $1.2 billion in debt!
On my K1 the Beginning Capital Account for KMP was different from the Ending Capital Account for CPNO. I expected them to be identical. Anyone know why they aren't identical?
George was a great comedian but prone to exaggeration. Yes, the super rich have too much power, but they don't own us and can't control everything. If they did why did the Koch brothers spend 400 million to beat Obama...and lose? Plus, blame parents for a big part of poor educations. Remember, too, that both Gates and Buffet had humble beginnings...and both had good educations. For years IBM said they would hire anyone with a PhD in physics...they wanted them all. Obviously they wished the educational system was better. So IMHO there is no conspiracy to dumb down the public. That's the fault of the public itself and the normal IQ curve.
I may be wrong but I believe you misjudged him. He provided quite a few details on his "system" and was clearly very irritated by the personal insults. I would agree with you except for those details. It's good to have a system, even if it's wrong. Otherwise it's just guessing. And admit this...you got lucky...what if he'd been right? Don't gloat when you get lucky. No one knows with certainty where AA will go next week. If you think you do someday you'll look like a fool too.
I very much doubt he's left the board and lost 25K. I sent him a post not long ago suggesting if the insults hurled his way (and there were plenty) irritated him, and it was obvious they did, he should stop posting. Haven't seen him post since then.
Yes, he was a tad arrogant, saying he was "never wrong", but is that a reason for all the personal insults? Some people on this board are to blame if he's gone IMHO.
Sounds to me like he already has a pretty good system, except it predicts the opposite of what he thinks it predicts. 87% is a very good win percentage.
If the negative feedback is irritating then stop making your predictions public. Pretty simple. And stop saying you are "always right". No one, and I do mean no one, is always right, especially in the short run. Be happy if you are right 60% of the time. And keep it to yourself if you are. There is nothing to be gained by bragging...is that supposed to make you popular? It won't.
I commend you for developing a stock picking "system". Over time, with refinements, it is sure to be time well spent. Just remember you are up against formidable opponents with access to far more information and computing power than you have. Good luck.
Interesting twist on this book. As I understand it, Goldman Sachs just announced they will no longer use a HFT (High Frequency Trading) platform. In other words, no more illegal front running. They must realize they faced a potential huge class action lawsuit. They probably do anyway. The SEC is investigating. Better late than never I suppose.
Thank you Michael Lewis!
Michael Lewis has a new book, Flash Boys, that proves the market is rigged...especially for day traders. Companies with close ties to the exchanges (like the NYC banks) get their orders placed and executed after your order is submitted but before it executes. A type of front running that is supposed to be illegal.
This scam can be avoided by only submitting limit orders and never market orders.
As everyone should know by now, Glenn Beck is a certified looney, high school dropout, and former radio disk jockey. He even flunked his job at Fox News. He knows nothing about economics, health care, or anything else, but is an expert on crackpot conspiricy theories. For example, he believes the US is on the verge of converting to Sharia law. If that isn't nuty, what is? Anyone who believes anything he says must be a looney too, guided by fear and paranoia. Will his followers ever wise up? I doubt it.
Thanks for the ACA information.
The president flew home yesterday. He practically ran up the steps into Air Force 1. On Sunday he played golf at Larry Ellison's private 18 hole course. After he left two huge Air Force aircraft landed and they loaded his limo, ambulance, and secret service vehicles...and they flew off too.
Where I live. In the 80's today. The president was here this weekend, to play golf with three basketball buddies from high school. We drove to the airport to see Air Force 1 parked there. The secret service blocked off several busy streets during his visit...Bob Hope, Gerald Ford, Frank Sinatra, and Kirk Douglas. Aren't those all Republicans?
Thanks for the feedback. But I wonder why santa_fe_everynew has not responded? Cat got her tongue I suppose. The truth is (to paraphrase you), "Most conservatives have no problem believing anything they hear if it's anti-Obama".
I asked two very simple questions. Why hwven't you responded? If I posted that Obama visited Mars last week I'd have to back it up with proof wouldn't I? You claim Obama intentionally means to bankrupt the coal industry but give nothing to support your claim. Why should we believe you? Speak up! My guess...you are just repeating something someone told you. You have no idea whether it's true or not.
Please explain if you want us to believe you. What, exactly, did Obama propose in 2008? And what lie did he just tell.
