Yes, and I'm doubling down. My cost average is ~10.00. I can take it to almost 8.00 at ~4% dividend. Ok. This will be back to 10 before you know it. And if it goes to 5, so be it, it's only money, right? I still believe.

Long term hold question - please answer

Can the currency issue get worse though? I mean, of course it can, but will it? Total speculation, but at least the countries are taking stronger steps to address the issues.

Consider this --- in Q2 we had a huge one time charge mainly due to moving to SICAD II. We had (186M) loss in currency exchange. That 186M was 19% of revenues. Just two quarters ago (13Q4) currency losses were only 12% of revenues. 2013Q2 was 7.5% of revenues. Take today's 14Q2 revenues at 7.5% currency loss and back out the one time charge - ARCO made $0.45/share this quarter.

My point - once the currency stabilizes and recovers, and that will happen, ARCO is healthy. I do not believe all foreign currencies will continue with inflation into oblivion. At some point, those currencies will stabilize and rebound. At least that's my belief.

    ARCO management masters of spin

The currency issues are simply destroying the numbers right now. Organic growth is still high. Take out the currency issues and you would see dramatically different results.

My only guess is that upcoming earnings are anticipated to be better than expected. Report in 7 days (Aug 5).

  • There are certainly people on both side of this stock. Some love it, others hate it. One thing seems to always ring clear though. It's not a matter of if with this stock, it's when. When will it take off? You can pick good companies, you can't pick when they will be successful. I feel this is a good company, and it's only a matter of when with ARCO.

My question is, what are the long-term downside arguments? Tell me why this stock will not succeed. Kirchner? She'll be out very soon. Currency? At some point it will level off and regroup. Growth? ARCO knocks it out of the park quarter after quarter, same store sales and new stores, and without CapEx we'd be sitting on bigger profits. Economy? The middle class is quickly growing in Latin/South America. Balance sheet? They own something like 90% of their stores which carries heavy assets to balance the long term (very manageable) debt.

So what is it? I don't get it. I am a young guy. I have a lot of working years ahead of me. But I am piling money into this company as fast as I can. Because I don't see a single scenario in which ARCO fails. Which scares me, because I realize it is certainly possible, but I don't see the downside play. So tell me - what is the long-term downside to ARCO?

Oh yeah, and it pays a ~2.5% dividend. I honestly do not see a better buy and hold forever stock to maximize risk vs. reward. Someone educate me and tell me why investors will not be sitting in a pot of gold in 10 years with this stock.

I hope we do go back to 8.60 --- I will buy even more --- this is a buy and forget. Hold it 20 years, you won't regret it.

June 3 - $8.99. One month later - $11.11 plus a $.06 dividend. A nice 24.3% return over the last month. Sure wish I was an idiot for every stock I own.
