Goodie! So glad such a deal is "imminent", according to the poster with all the good trading "sources".....

Greetings, nelson20847. So, what's changed in the past week or so to make you suddenly "elated" to be a PWE shareholder? Certainly not the stock price. "Management is now being proactive"? How exactly is that? Doing what you have to do to avoid further embarrassment is not what I'd call a "proactive" measure.

Just to set the record straight:

I currently have a small LONG, repeat LONG position in PWE, but I've also made money on the short side over the past year or so. What's wrong with that?

I disagree with certain actions taken (or the lack of actions taken, by PWE's "management"), and will not hesitate to say so. If you consider that "ranting and spewing garbage", then your choice is simple: don't read it....

Didn't you hear? PWE's going to be sold for U.S. $8.00 per share, according to the "sources" of another poster on this Board; therefore, you've got nothing to worry about.....

So now they're not releasing Q4 and year-end-2014 results until the middle of March? That should tell you something about what the numbers are going to look like.....

Thanks for the tip, ohio. I'll take a look at it, but I'm mostly staying clear of the energy space right now. Absent a major geopolitical event, I think these lower energy prices are going to be with us for a while...

I'll take your word on what was said today, but wasn't Viking supposed to be one of their "core" development areas going forward, along with Cardium and Slave Point, when they announced their five year plan? And now there's a possibility they might either consider selling it, or worse, have to sell it?

thanks for the info, ben, but I think that might be a little early; in the past, it's been sometime in early February. Q4 usually takes a little longer than normal to compile, since it'll have full-year-2014 figures in it as well. I'll let everyone know when the company website gets updated....

Wow, you're an absolute genius, hardmetalman1. You read the last two dividend declaration Press Releases, in which the company itself might as well have put in big bold letters WE"RE GOING TO CUT THE DIVIDEND, and we'll announce it just prior to our Investor Day presentation, and you figured out all by yourself ? Truly impressive....that you can read.....

Greetings, ohio. I've been checking the Events Calendar on PWE's website for an update on when they're going to announce Q4, 2014 results, but nothing so far. I can't imagine it's going to be a pretty picture, but hey, you never know. I have no doubt they've been trying to cut expenses wherever possible, but I don't think they can possibly cut enough to make up for the drop in energy prices. I'm also wondering if they'll comment on the fact that they failed to meet their stated goal of "$1.5 billion to $2.0 billion" of non-core asset sales by the end of 2014 (somehow, I doubt it). Simply amazing that they laid out a five year plan, but couldn't stay on plan 14 months into it. Just another example of ineptitude here....

Let's see now; for the first time in recent memory, in its last two dividend declaration Press Releases, the company itself has strongly hinted at the possibility of decreases in both Capex and the current level of dividends. So why wouldn't anyone with a brain in his/her head not be expecting such reductions will be announced on January 22?

Greetings, ohio. Don't beat up on good ol' georgia too much....after all, he/she has had a tough year here. What I posted was FACT, but naturally since it doesn't convey the rosy picture he/she sees, he/she resorts to name calling. I've come to expect it, and it doesn't change the facts one bit....

As usual, the southern_a--hole is 100% INCORRECT. Mentioned BY NAME during one of the afternoon segments were the following: Baytex Energy, Enerplus, and Penn West. The guest went on to say that some of the companies in the Canadian oil patch with comparatively high debt loads and high production costs "may not be able to survive". I assure you my hearing is just fine. As for yours, how do you hear anything with your head so far up your a--?

Greetings, lionelman17. Not sure if you saw it, but CNBC had one of their people up in Canada today, and he did several pieces on the state of the Canadian E&P companies. Among the conclusions of one of his guests was speculation concerning a pickup in M&A activity in the group within the next six months or so. He also stated pretty plainly that there's a real chance of some of the companies in the group going under. You might be able to find at least one of the pieces on CNBC's website.....

As always, you raise some fair points mrpev. The current management of PWE did inherit their fair share of issues, but they've created a few of their own as well. The decision not to put hedges in place was theirs, alone. The decision to only sell half to two thirds of the the non-core assets they committed to divesting themselves of by the end of 2014 was theirs, alone. Yes, they've proven to be good at cutting expenses, but that's the low-hanging fruit of turning a company around.

The simple fact is the current management and BOD of PWE have presided over an almost 80 % loss in market value over the past 14 months, so if that's them "doing the best they can", then perhaps their best simply isn't good enough. Just one man's opinion, of course, but I know how I'll be voting, and I'm sure I won't be the only one....

Greetings, nelson20847. Your post above really hit on some important issues. It looks like you're joining the camp of those who have no faith in the "management" of this company to meet even its own stated goals, goals entirely within their control to meet. Granted, they can't control the price of oil, but that's no excuse for not meeting even some of the basic tenets of their stated "turnaround plan". Are you prepared to show your displeasure with a vote of "no confidence" at the next shareholder's meeting?

Here we are still a month or so away from what's sure to be a disaster of a Q4 2014 Earnings Release, and we're already seeing the $1.50s. Could this thing actually see the $1.20s by the time the latest "our future is intact" statements from Saint Rick and Saint Dave are made? At this point, I'd say it's highly likely; what a shame....

  • Let's see now, on the subject of oil prices we've got Prince Alwaleed of Saudi Arabia stating "there's less demand, and there's oversupply" versus georgia_stock_investor's claims that "there is no glut". Hmmmm, tough choice.....

You must not have heard the news, mdb4403. According to another poster on this Board, his "trading" sources tell him an offer of U.S. $8.00 per PWE share is "imminent" and "on the table". You'll can be second in line to have your shares sold at that price....right after me!
