  • I want to know how this takeover drama ends. Frankly I'd rather MW come out as the controlling interest since I prefer their stores. Get a lot of my dress shirts there and go for the +$10 on-site tailoring. Can usually find a good tie there too (on a related note, there's something on Kickstarter called the 'Tie Link' that looks pretty interesting).

Not sure how the stocks of either can keep going up though just on deal talk, so once the outcome becomes clear I'd expect a 'sell the news' pullback.

  • Hey guys. On a topic related to Orbital Sciences and its products, you might be interested in a high-energy video being made by the National Space Society to highlight what our development of space is going to look like in the coming years. With an emphasis on commercial space, it should be some good PR for the entire space industry. Looks like it recently got successfully funded, but still has a few days left before it closes if you want to sign up for a copy. It’s called “Our Future in Space” and can be found on the NSS website or on the Kickstarter funding site. I think the video is a great idea to help spark interest in space again by giving people a realistic yet inspiring vision to look forward to.

$18 at most, but going into the next console cycle that would make it way overpriced and not something I would be holding.

They simply have no handle on their cost structure - it's a case study in greed and poor management.

That's exactly how the game is played and always has been:
You downgrade the stock to get it cheaper, you load up on shares, you upgrade it, you sell shares and/or go short, repeat.

Options don't trade in after-hours. Wow, if you're trading options you really should know that.

    earnings are solid

guidance is right in line (not disappointing)

    stock price indicates oversold

20% eps growth next quarter yoy

$35 should be an easy near-term target

GME stock price will bounce off of today's panic selling and new shorts. Good for at least a 10% upward move through year end now. The $22 area is strong technical support and the fundamentals are very very supportive at these prices.

Bragging about inherited, not personally earned, family wealth and disparaging the ancestry of others won't be winning you any friends, or any arguments in the U.S.A. That type of snobbery only works in Europe.
Debating tip: you were baited into a personal attack and you fell for it hook, line, and sinker. By responding the way you did you lost a lot of credibility and made the opposition against your views more entrenched.

So many people playing THQI as a trade right now off of the UFC game. No one wants to get off this train as long as it keeps going higher, but it sets the stage for a rapid fall when it becomes evident that others have started selling. You better have an exit strategy people.

Anyone think that the swine flu is a concern for places like Rick's that have so much close contact with a steady flow of customers? I thought about it today when someone mentioned that they weren't going to movies this weekend because of it. Maybe it'll turn out to be nothing, but I don't remember us getting close to a 5 rating from the CDC before.

TTWO and THQI will likely both be acquired within the next year or so. Now that attention is off TTWO temporarily is has focused on 'the other guy' THQI.

My opinion is to be long both.

I would love to see the cable business and turbine business split apart and sold separately to larger industry players - it would unlock huge short-term returns to current shareholders and give a real boost to the adaptation of both technologies as the world needs them 'now' and not just 3 years from now. It would be a real win(d)-win(d) situation.

You can argue that more value would be unlocked long term if they remain independent but long-term is way too uncertain in this fast changing world.

  • It looks like it needs to trace down below $20 again today before any big support comes in based on the way trading is going. Then it could go higher again this afternoon if all works out.

Careful though - SOLF is in hyper-volitility mode right now and could easily go to either $17 or $25 at the drop of a hat.

I wonder what HW would be doing if the general market wasn't up so much today also. I agree though, short sellers are the main driver for the upward price pressure today - Headwaters looks a lot less likely to collapse as a company after today's earnings report so the attractiveness to short sellers should wane.

Question: anyone here actually buying shares long today up over $12.00? No judgements, I'm just curious.

Yeah, not a bad quarter at all. The 28% stock price jump was a bit surprising though, maybe it is an oversold reaction or some short covering? I was expecting maybe a 10-12% pop.

Listening to the conference call now, I hear a lot of potential, but nothing great coming in the immediate future. They really need the housing market to start recovering before they can get any real business growth again. They also need coal prices to remain high. Sounds like a 2009 story to me if all works out well, so I'm not going to get too excited for the time being - especially in this bear of a market. $10 to $12 is where I'd put the stock value right now until they can show some real growth again or at least get some debt paid off (I hate seeing the level of debt they currently have), so I'd be surprised if HW can hold on to all of today's gains through the coming weeks.

Disclosure: no position in HW currently, just closed out my synthetic long options positions today. I'll be back in if the share price retreats again, if not, best wishes to the longs.
