Thinking it thru; I'll bet the citizenry is beginning to see thru this goofball & his (lame) brain trust...they elected-Masters-Of-Game-Theory; now they realize it ain't no game!! Reminds me of Germany back in the 30's when they put in power someone who told them what they wanted to hear(that time from rt.); until the hand got played too far...they say that when Hitler's bluff(following similar doubletalk, false bravado & table thumping) finally got called when he invaded Poland, & the rest of Europe finally had enough & declared war-he looked out the window & said basically "Geeze, now what??!
Now, Europe has again had it-forget about kicking the can any more...
    How to play it?
How about a Straddle in the options pit? By monday we'll know what's happening & look for a big gap, up or down!

And don't forget; over the horizon is the Fed rates liftoff coming soon (clearly telegraphed [finally!] by the Chairman's report yesterday-only the speed & trajectory is in question)...Libor rates will follow suit soon thereafter= DOUBLE WHAMMY for shortz...borrowing costs go up/ PSEC income does also!!
If I had shorted this {& I have no moral antipathy towards this tactic-hey, it's Capitalism, that's all); I would def. be looking for weaker stragglers from the herd!!
Would no longer be wasting $$ on Hit Pieces or paying even peanuts to these Msg Board Shills (& you know who you are)-LOL!!!

I think the brokers do not have to actually buy the shares (for drippers), unless already in their book, until Div Pmt Date...WILL BE WATCHING VOLUME on the 18th, just for fun...IF TRUE; that explains the regular price rise, right before Pmt Date-had been wishing to accumulate even more shares in my Drip at the recent depressed prices (I'll be cackling with glee in a couple years!), IF they could've been had at the monthly Super Low sp's , a week or so before PmtDate; but the 30-40c pop is not that signifiacant {just calc'd it; @ a 4cent value loss per dripped share added due to the pop}...
ALMOST A TRADEABLE PHENOMENON if I traded & volume was large...

I FEEL THE WINDS ARE SHIFTING!!
Several good, objective & insightful analysis out, Insider buying into the no-brainer situation, all bad news long out, shorts getting nervous; Libor getting closer & closer to uptick; shaky Eurozone & Greek problems unresolvable, exhaustion in the Tech/Pharm & various highflier sectors

    HOIST THOSE SAILS!!!

Scott Brown article in Seeking Alpha today

That's still a lot of shares

  • Today's SA article came out@ 1:15; "Lies, Distortions & the Truth" is the subtitle...Objective & balanced article (finally) that pretty much summarizes the PSEC recent history, by an author known & respected for his thoroughness & rationality. Price has been trending up since the publishing. He points out the high Retail Investor component, especially after the Funds were driven out because of the Index rule changes last November, I believe. That says plenty! The amateur investor (me[& prob you]) may not fully understand the arcane regulations & ins & outs of a BDC company, the finely structured balance of loans, dividend pmt requirements etc. etc. ; A PERFECT VEHICLE FOR SHORT Manipulations, it seems to me.
At any rate, Mr. Brown sees an inevitable squeeze coming, & a poss. 30% pop. This has happened many time before, I am sure, withother Eqiuties in similar situations, & is all part of the game...
Me, I'm holding (after being sorely tempted to bail)!!

Just noticed that too, 5 year low...haven't looked at other BDC's; if they are in the same boat, then ther'se plenty of hope that it's just a cyclical thing-if so, things always" revert to the mean"; one of the few provable long term trends...if the inevitable rotation happens in a reasonable time frame, then Dripping the divs will look like a great decision.
    Almost afraid to look!

When ther'se blood in the street(s) they say it's time to buy
Q is, how much blood is your own, & how long can you take the blanching!

I just KNOW, if I bailed right now; flipped it into say Biotechs, by next year, the whole picture will probably reverse-it happened to me a few times before...

    Spinoff Kickoff

burghdood burghdood May 28, 2015 11:45 AM Flag

To further simplify, (using your logic, expertise, insights & best guesses), do you forsee
current (non anchors, I guess) shareholders being able to profit from selling ("rights"?) into the open market for some %age of profit? Or, if the so-called-"rights" are discounted (in the mkt.)in proportion to the current sub-NII levels, are we MOST LIKELY at a break even point, & must decide to deploy more resources to buy into the stew at a (possibly) further discount to "fair (whatever that really is) market value??

But ofcourse, yet it would be nice to have some solid scoop!

  • burghdood by burghdood May 27, 2015 6:54 PM Flag

Anyone have a better handle on the most likely time frame for the Spinoff clarifications, other thaqn "Several Months" or "Soon"? Fighting the age old impulse to "Buy High, Sell Low", as the drift down continues...I understand that Mgmt wants to play it's hand close to the vest; but some telegraphing must have been sent to someone?!
PS-Don't think the "braintrust" is that horrible, & am willing to pay a Premium for above avg. talent, but I need "Some Kinda Sign" to Keep Hangin On (& don't know why these song titles keep coming to mere: PSEC, hope in the end it ain't the Blues!!)

At least it's nice to see a BDC can snap back 20% in a relatively short pd.of time...hopefully, PSEC is now in that process!!

Thanks for the insights wjm, nothing special there, I guess-any scuttlebut re: the BKCC affiliation w/Blackrock? Whats in a name??!

  • burghdood by burghdood May 17, 2015 3:22 PM Flag

Just stumbled upon BKCC, another BDC...10% div ($9.50 range, currently), affiliated somehow w/BlackRock...may be able to take advantage of it's Gilded Rep & resources, one would think. Up from $8ish , & has outperformed most BDC's (esp. psec) in almost all time frames! PE of 5ish,, PEG (it's even measurable!) @ 2...ANYONE LOOK INTO BKCC?-seems like a possibly WELL MANAGED (top ranked resources, leads research etc?) BDC, although they already did their "bounceback of @ 20%

Don't forget the Samsung push into bigger , badder & curvier cell phones (all OLED, all the time) in their attempts to differentiate & keep up with the Apple juggenaut, AND the other applications, like lighting & autos Apps...I guess, as these dvps. pulsate thru the ecosystem, it's pretty hard to predict any kind of steady projections, but I do think the trend is definitely up, & maybe for quite a while!!!

Wondering if a "realistic & reasonable" PEG, throwing out the outlier, would actually be below 1; a rare phenomenon!

  • burghdood by burghdood May 11, 2015 12:48 PM Flag

I see that the current PE is 55; next yr. to drop to 31 (as per Yahoo Key Statistic page)...the PEG (expected P/5yr growth rate is MINUS 150!! The PEG is my favorite metric to judge a Growth company, in the mid term anyways, and I am wondering how they came to the -150% ? Is the growth that rapid/unpredictable, or just a keystroke error??

    Anything about spinoffs?

  • Wouldn't be surprised if all the negative publicity, the 5kk volume today, and the recent price action are all engineered to drive the price down significantly & shake out the weak & freaked out hands...would not at all be shocked if a buying campaign is already set in place (including "news" that insiders are snapping up the {surprise} ultra cheap shares, they are poised to clean up on the anticipated Fed Rate Hike, Bond funds are tanking vs. BDC's etc etc etc. Seen it happen many times before with moderately traded small & midcaps...
Me, I'll just sit on the sidelines, collect my [dripped] dividends, & watch it all play out.
