more unfortunate is not having any long shares :)
In the next few weeks, the Brazilian Health Ministry is expected to give the green light for Oxitec to begin supplying the insects across the country. The WHO is also broadly in favour of the new technology.
Hadyn Parry, Chief Executive of Oxitec, said: “I think a role out of GM mosquitoes could stop this very quickly indeed.
e're not aware of any mosquito-borne disease associated with such birth outcomes on a scale anything like what is occurring now," Frieden said. "Because the phenomenon is so new, we are quite literally discovering more about it each and every day
Guillain-Barré can be a nightmare for those who have it,” said Dr. Wellington Galvão, a hematologist in the city of Maceió in northeast Brazil who treated 43 patients with Guillain-Barré in 2015, up from an average of 10 to 15 cases in previous years. “I estimate that Zika increases by about 20 times the probability that an individual can get Guillain-Barré.”
Shortly after a mosquito infected Patricia Brito with the Zika virus, she knew something was terribly wrong. Soon she could not move her legs. The paralysis soon spread to her arms, her face and the rest of her body, to the point that doctors put her on a ventilator in an intensive care unit for 40 days.
“It was more terrifying than any horror movie,” said Ms. Brito, 20, who works as a cashier at a bakery in Delmiro Gouveia, a city in northeast Brazil. Months after her release from the hospital, Ms. Brito still does physical therapy in an effort to avoid using a wheelchair.
Health Minister Alejandro Gaviria said there was a "causal connection" between Zika, the Guillain-Barre disorder and the three deaths.
WHO declares emergency, "please give up sex". sexual transmission, saliva scare, shrunken heads, paralyzed, dead people..... um.. pretty soon.. dont go outside. What pregnant lady in her right mind would try the vaccine? Whenever it comes out.
This virus seems almost stealthy as it hits people differently.. on one hand you keep hearing.. "only mild".. But these links to shrunken head and paralysis and death is getting scarier by the minute.. no symptoms, multiple months symptoms, dire symptoms, makes this scary as hell. With sexual transmission as well... Watch what happens to this stock when the PANIC button is hit. Hasn't hit yet, but I think its coming. XON isnt widely known ticker yet, but it will be in the next 3 months.
Spreading faster than expected. Shorts are toast
Thomas Shrader, PhD, CFA, sees the Zika virus as a $200 to $400 million annual opportunity for Intrexon, even with a cautious adoption ramp. The analyst commented: The release of GMO insects to fight disease causing insects is certainly a trailblazing endeavor – but some current financial metrics are worth noting. Overall, we would expect the ramp to peak sales in any approved country to be slow - a decade seems a reasonable estimate. A slow ramp is expected as there are obvious political obstacles to using GMO organisms in most places and also because the optimal ways to treat mosquito outbreaks are still being worked out. This estimate should probably be viewed as an estimate of the conventional self-paying market. The potential for large grants from sources such as the Gates Foundation or the WHO to service areas unable to self-pay might be as large or larger.
nice..starting to break out too
