  • Big volume and nice move to start the first half hour.

  • on hill. Just noticed after the earnings release that the price target was raised from 5.50 to 6. Interesting. That's a pretty nice gain from here.

Ok. I will give you that. Didn't realize you were talking hourly. I was looking at the big picture. Volume has been on the rise since the beginning of 2014. I take that as a good thing. Testing the 50 day moving average (successfully) yesterday was also good.

Volume is slowing? How can you possibly say something like that? Volume is definitely not slowing.

With the large retail position in this stock, I am not surprised to see the selling this morning. Earnings excellent, by all measures. I think the expectations were for a more robust guidance for 2014. This is the way management has played this for the past year and this leaves room for possibly raising them later, as they did for the 4th quarter. Still very solid. Folks expecting a gap up were set up for disappointment and they got it. Should be an interesting day

This does seem different this time around. And Hill has never looked this sound from a technical perspective. The chart looks awesome. You have to hold through some earnings reports to get the really nice gains. The great stock operators in the past always said "buy when you are scared to death" (which is where I am now) and "sell when you couldn't be happier" (not there yet). With such a large retail base, there is never any way to know which way this thing goes after earnings, but as long as the report is solid and the outlook is good it should be worth holding on for the gains which should be coming over the next 12-18. The CEO said at one of the recent presentations that the current time reminds him a lot of the run some years back that took the stock near 20. I am planning on sticking around to experience that similar run.

I agree things are looking very bright for HILL. Have been long since Jan 2011. Rode it up some and down a lot. Saw it sell off on earnings several times, but the earnings and managements attitude were nothing to write home about for the next couple years. I bought in on the value of their patent portfolio. Looks like its finally coming to fruition. Management has stated that the current feel is much like the run to 19 that happened a few years back as you pointed out. It could gap up on earnings this time around without doubt. However, with the bullishness that abounds around here, it could also see some profit taking on the earnings news if it is not as good as many expect. In either case, I expect if there is any weakness, it will be short lived. It does feel different now. I expect this to be a double from here as well. Just wondering how many are going to be selling on the earnings news. If they do, I am still in the market for more. As a side note, HILL has had some very nice technical signals recently. It broke out of a cup base the week of 1/10. It then formed what ibd calls a short stroke and broke out of that pattern the week of 2/14. HILL immediately formed a 3 weeks tight pattern and broke out of that yesterday on big vol. No doubt that funds are accumulating.
