    The answer is deep into the physics and structure of materials. Suffice to say, that the crystalline structure of the YBCO material deposited on the processed substrate is responsible for this property. The STI process used in the RCE-CDR equipment is responsible for creating this structure. I'm not sure that any of STI's scientists fully understand how it is achieved, only that it has the right property without any "special" steps.

    From what I have read, the research being undertaken by those whose process doesn't create this property intrinsically, is all focused on achieving a result which is low in cost to create and which offers performance acceptable for the application they are targeting.

    I've not seen any literature which compares the performance.
