Suitable for offshore towers up to 160M high. Just introduced earlier this year. Gearing up for new 10 and 15MW wind turbines? Sure looks like it!

scale-ability = key of value here

The first two stages already have the 1500 KM capacity, as I understand it. Production could be doubled simply with an extra vacuum deposition piece, at a cost of around $2-3MM. I agree - scalability is the key, along with EPS and a nice, fat multiple. We have less than 20MM shares issued. Hopefully no more dilution. Based on margins projected earlier by mgmt, we could easily visit triple digits next year.

    Just replace AMSC with STI:

American Superconductor Receives 3 Million Meter Amperium™ Wire

American Superconductor Receives 3 Million Meter Amperium™ Wire Order from
    Korea’s LS Cable Ltd.

    - World’s Largest High Temperature Superconductor Wire Order to Meet Demand
for Superconductor Power Cables in Korea and the U.S.

    - Shipments of Amperium Wire to LS Cable to Begin in 2012

    Business Wire

    DEVENS, Mass. -- October 06, 2010

American Superconductor Corporation (NASDAQ: AMSC), a global power
technologies company, today announced that it has received the world’s largest
order for high temperature superconductor (HTS) wire. LS Cable Ltd. (LS
Cable), the world’s third largest power cable manufacturer, has placed an
order for 3 million meters (nearly 10 million feet) of Amperium wire – AMSC’s
proprietary second generation (2G) HTS wire. LS Cable intends to utilize the
wire to complete alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC)
superconductor cable projects globally. Under the terms of the contract, AMSC
is to begin shipping Amperium wire to LS Cable starting in 2012.

“Our objective is to be the leading provider of superconductor power cables
for electric utilities worldwide,” said LS Cable President Jong-ho Son. “This
Amperium wire contract helps ensure we will have the wire we need to complete
the superconductor cable projects we have underway with KEPCO in Korea and
also take on commercial project opportunities globally such as Tres Amigas in
    the US,"

Apparently AMSC isn't the only HTS wire for LS Cable. STI has a HUGE opportunity with LS. IMO, they've been the leading user of HTS wire, so far. This could get very interesting! And then there's Nexans ...

I'd be surprised if that was the case. I do remember some heavy volume days when the price approached $4.

The limited volume compared to prior warrant cash raises suggests STI may have something else in the works. Not a private placement; rather, another source of capital? By mid September - just a hunch!

It does make sense STI would want a decent deposit up front, and for a large order that could be a significant amount. It also makes sense any of the large multinationals they've been talking to would simply pay an even larger sum up front to have a dedicated production line for their very own. That second scenario would pay for the capital equipment. These large companies will want absolute assurance their wire order volumes can be met, The best way for STI to do that is through the second scenario.

Just announced from Stanford University. Increases ion-lithium battery charge capacity up to four fold. Can be scaled into EVs, significantly increasing range per charge and reducing weight. Called the "Holy Grail". Tesla just needs some HTS wire to handle the amps for a quicker charge... Whoa!

Does anyone know if HTS cable and SFCL have already been fully installed in the AmpaCity project in Essen, Germany? Nexans is in charge of both. Is STI's wire a possibility for either or both?

Interesting. I believe AMSC is one of the main participants, so I'd be surprised if they exited altogether. Maybe they and STI become vertically integrated partners with Nexans on this deal? AMSC seems to be otherwise preoccupied with other affairs right now. I don't see them having the capacity to produce the HTS wire in volumes - let alone performance - needed for this project. It's still way too expensive for them to make, anyway. Time to scale it up, STI!
