When the conversion has occurred from mass to energy, the result is less mass and more energy.
Barely. In a nuclear blast, there is at most a 0.016% drop in mass (rounding up; of the 6.15kg plutonium used to nuke Hiroshima, about 1g was "lost" i.e. converted to energy).
The sun, which is essentially a constantly contiguous nuclear blast, has been operating as such for the last 5 billion years. E=mc² indicates a mass-loss of 4 x 10⁹ kg/sec or about 4 million metric tons per second.
The sun's present mass is about 2 x 10³⁰ kg, so don't panic just yet. If the Sun lost mass by radiation at this rate it would lose 1% of its mass every 160 billion years. But of course the sun is a fusion bomb, not a fission bomb, meaning its engine is fueled by fusing hydrogen atoms to helium, smaller atoms into larger atoms, etc until at some point around 4 billion years from now its nuclear engine won't have anything left to convert into energy, the mass will drop and uh oh.
On the other hand, nuclear fission is simply splitting large atoms (eg plutonium, uranium) into smaller ones.
Stellar dynamics 101 with a side of nuclear physics.
Should transgender men and women be allowed to compete in the Olympics or on professional sports teams (if they have the skills)?
In 2004 *cough 11 years ago cough* the International Olympic Committee (IOC) clarified the guidelines for participation for transgender athletes. The IOC rule states that participation is based on sex, and those wishing to compete against athletes not of their birth sex are required to undergo sex reassignment surgery along with two years of either testosterone suppression or testosterone supplementation.
I believe the professional sports leagues employ the same general guidelines as the IOC. It is worth noting, however, that Renée Richards was barred from competing as a woman in the 1976 Open by the USTA, and said decision was overturned in 1977...whereupon she did extremely well and was inducted into the USTA Eastern Tennis Hall of Fame in 2000.
"Energy can be converted into mass in accordance with Albert Einstein's famous equation E (energy) = M (mass) times C (the speed of light) squared."
Wrong as usual. Einstein's special theory of relativity doesn't include "stepping outside the Standard Model, the all-encompassing theory that describes the particles and forces;" indeed it can only be applied to the Standard Model.
To clarify, the Standard Model says that although mass and energy can be expressed as equivalent (equitably valent) mathematically, they are not directly interchangeable. E=mc² turns out to be surprisingly complex, where E is expressed in joules ((one newton meter) or (one watt/second)), m in grams (kilograms) and c of course is velocity: 3x10⁸ m/s. Our concept of matter assumes a very structured, organized physical system that tends to become less organized over time.
Time itself is the frame in which this universe, including our own observations, appears to function: actions are precipitated by previous actions; cause precedes effect. Perhaps "dark matter" is somehow independent of time.
The core issue at hand seems to be how physics expresses time, space, mass as a function of force (energy). But even energy is composed of particles: photons, electrons, gravitons, the Higgs bosun. It is likely that investigations into the nature of dark matter/energy will create more questions than are answerable in the short term.
After seeing what god did to Sodom, why do liberals still participate in #$%$ sexuality?
Salt is a part of a healthy diet. But you don't want to overdo it (I'm talkin at you, Lord).
Pretty sure the cost of 56 GOP attempts to repeal Obamacare is between $70-80 million. Party of fiscal responsibility!
Then why not write a similar op-ed to King Salman in the English language newspaper, Ar Riyadh, in Saudi Arabia where gays may be publicly executed by being severed from their head?
Uh maybe because Tim Cook is gay and doesn't vacation in Riyahd (or Indiana)
I believe the current Pope is ok with the Armies of Sodom so long as they accept JFC as their lord and savior. Outside of that, Francis appears to uncomfortably like JEEZUS what with calling out corporatist capitalism, economic inequality in the name of egalitarianism.
"Do you see this somehow as a game?"
"Is it a joke to you?"
Introduced in House (03/03/2015)
Internet Freedom Act
Nullifies the rule adopted by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on February 26, 2015, relating to the reclassification of broadband Internet access service as a telecommunications service.
Prohibits the FCC from reissuing such rule in substantially the same form, or from issuing a new rule that is substantially the same, unless the rule is specifically authorized by a law enacted after enactment of this Act.
Exempts any rule that the FCC determines is necessary for national security, public safety, or assistance to law enforcement.
LOL.Marsha Blackburn and 43 other Republicans...
What exactly is the problem with the FCC classifying broadband internet access as a utility?
"Based on references in the regulations alone, it is clear that Barack Obama's takeover of the Internet was actually written — in large part — by radical Marxist-leaning organizations; and it has also come to light that radical socialist-leaning organizations funded by Billionaire Socialist George Soros and others have spent approximately 200 MILLION DOLLARS ($200,000,000.00) to make Barack Obama's tyrannical and dictatorial takeover of the Internet a reality."
a) Which radical Marxist-leaning organizations? Name one.
b) 200 MILLION DOLLARS ($200,000,000.00) Wow, down to the penny. I had no idea a US President was that cheap...although I do seem to recall former Reagan BFF Saddam Hussein asking $1B.
" radical socialist-leaning organizations funded by Billionaire Socialist George Soros"
Soros made his billion$ via fund management and manipulating currency exchange rates. How exactly does that method of capital accrual translate to socialism??
(paging Warren Buffett...Mr Buffett, please answer the stupid phone)
"was it not Jesus that said the only people not to do business with are those that sell their goods in the temple/church?"
Jesus Cleanses the Temple
(Mark 11:15-19; Luke 19:45-48; John 2:12-25)
"Lo, And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves,
And said unto them,
It is written'
'My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.'"
So in this case, the reference is to a specific type of physical building.
However, via Corinthians 1:3:16
"Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you?"
In which such metaphysical constructs as 'mind' or 'soul' become the tacit, or necessary, subjects of meaning.
I'm no Christian scholar, so perhaps someone can point me towards those specific New Testament texts where Jesus excused bigotry.

More Bad News for Altria: Regulators Attack E-Cigs
For decades, tobacco giant Altria Group (NYSE: MO) has rewarded shareholders with extremely strong long-term returns, despite the persistent threat of increasing regulation. Yet falling cigarette volumes have reflected the success of efforts to reduce smoking, and in response, Altria has worked hard to position itself in the fast-growing electronic cigarette market. Many have seen this alternative to traditional cigarettes as a potential long-term solution to industrywide problems with tobacco sales, and some have hoped that e-cigarettes would free Altria and its peers from the same level of stringent scrutiny that the tobacco industry currently faces.
Unfortunately, those hopes now appear to have been overly optimistic. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced in the past week that it would begin a new advertising campaign to encourage people to quit smoking, and its television, radio, billboard, and online ads will include an angle that e-cigarette manufacturers have yet to encounter.
Currently, Altria and other tobacco companies enjoy much less stringent restrictions on advertising electronic cigarettes than they do on their traditional tobacco brands. Ads on television and in popular magazines have once again allowed tobacco-company marketing departments the leeway to promote e-cigarettes in ways that prospective users see as glamorous and attractive.
It's 2nd Amendment time, citizens!

Hilarious: the moron who defended #47Traitors believes Hillary Clinton deserves jail time.

"Darwinian evolutionists hate mathematicians
mathematics refutes their hypotheses.....notice I didn't say 'theory.'"
Au contraire mon sewer: the mathematics indicate Darwinian evolution is inevitable. Evidence? Extant extremophiles, viruses, etc. IMO there is life on Mars, but probably beyond the scope of our probes to detect: deep underground, near thermal vents. Likely bacteria, possibly multicellular - or maybe there's nothing.
"suffice it to say that a one celled life form hasn't had enough time to morph into an earthworm, over the period of time generally accepted by Verm's scientists, that the earth has been in existence"
Billions of years is an extremely difficult concept to comprehend, much less the trial-and-error process of natural selection, genetic mutations, etc etc etc.
"assuming that, for example, the smallest unit of time is one millionth of a second"
wrong by 11 or 12 orders of magnitude.

War with Iran is probably our best option
"The logical flaw in the indictment of a looming “very bad” nuclear deal with Iran that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered before Congress this month was his claim that we could secure a “good deal” by calling Iran’s bluff and imposing tougher sanctions. The Iranian regime that Netanyahu described so vividly — violent, rapacious, devious and redolent with hatred for Israel and the United States — is bound to continue its quest for nuclear weapons by refusing any “good deal” or by cheating.
This gives force to the Obama administration’s taunting rejoinder: What is Netanyahu’s alternative? War? But the administration’s position also contains a glaring contradiction. National security adviser Susan Rice declared at an American Israel Public Affairs Committee conference before Netanyahu’s speech that “a bad deal is worse than no deal.” So if Iran will accept only a “bad deal,” what is President Obama’s alternative? War?"
"Does this mean that our only option is war? Yes, although an air campaign targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure would entail less need for boots on the ground than the war Obama is waging against the Islamic State, which poses far smaller a threat than Iran does."
"Yes, there are risks to military action. But Iran’s nuclear program and vaunting ambitions have made the world a more dangerous place. Its achievement of a bomb would magnify that danger manyfold. Alas, sanctions and deals will not prevent this."
Since 2004 every neocon has been itching for a war with Iran: every six months, they assure everyone that Iran will develop a nuclear weapon in the next six months, or the six months after that, etc etc etc for a decade. Joshua Muravchik's piece is a hideously delusional and psychopathic bit of warmongering, written on behalf of Israel's fascist Likud Party.
But on the other hand it doesn't violate the Logan Act.
"Mitch McConnell has ruled out any threat of default on the nation's debt. Nonetheless..."
The only leader more useless than McConnell is Boehner.
"At what point will the American public become so fed up with the the clowns who now control Congress that they vote them out of office for a generation?"
Obama has chosen sides. He has chosen the Shia, the mortal enemies of all of the Arab States, including Saudi Arabia.
ISIS is a Sunni/Salafi group, basically employing the same warped ideology of al Qaida. However, Ayman al-Zawhahiri (al Qaida's current leader) has condemned ISIS in general and ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi specifically as being too radical.
ISIS is covertly funded by Saudi Arabian elements and probably by Arab billionaires in Qatar and Kuwait. The tactics displayed by ISIS suggests not terrorism, but a military org; terrorists blow stuff up; armies seize territory and then occupy it....probably because ISIS has successfully co-opted the same military that Bush/Bremer disbanded while regime-changing Hussein's authoritarian goverment for a parliament of Iran-friendly Shiites.
BTW, who is currently defending Iraq from ISIS? Oh right: that would be the Kurds and the Shia.
