and if not, is it possible that Apple could change their mind and go with it as GTAT finishes ramping up Mesa.

    Sentiment: Strong Buy

  • Bears have priced Armageddon into the stock price of perhaps the greatest investment of the next Decade.
Guidance can easily be met going into the remainder of the year. I don't believe Iphone screens were EVER priced into it.

A simple breakdown of the numbers reveals to me that Apple is going to need nearly 200 million sapphire pieces for it's Iphones, Iwatches, and Ipads and that's just in 2014. So who's going to provide Apple with all that sapphire? hmmm... I wonder. GTAT? yeah I thin so.

GTAT is still hiring at the mesa plant, expanding their power capabilities, and producing more sapphire.
Don't let them fool you into selling.

It's not complicated! GTAT is a WINNER!

    Go long, folks!
GTAT's partnership with Apple is obviously still in tact.
GTAT continues to hire at the mesa factory
GTAT is building additional power plants for the mesa factory
GTAT continues to produce sapphire and expand the Mesa factory and is selling it to Apple
GTAT has almost doubled the worlds supply of sapphire and isn't stopping
GTAT has Hyperion which will drastically reduce the cost of sapphire screens
Apple has filed numerous patents regarding sapphire
Apple spent big bucks($600 million) to get Mesa going.
Apple uses a ton of sapphire on it's IOS products(hundreds of million of pieces)

there are nearly unlimited applications for sapphire.
    A sapphire shortage is coming

Don't let the street fool you.

I for one am extremely excited to own shares of GTAT for so many reasons. In 2013, it started with their relationship with Apple. In 2014, it has been a transitional year for GTAT as we've watched them more than double their employee count and build a huge sapphire producing factory in Mesa, Arizona with cutting edge technology that continues to be put in place.

Now is not the time to panic and give up on GTAT.
The 2nd half of 2014 will see GTAT meet their guidance.
2015 will see GTAT fulfill the prophecy of stronger revenue and earnings as a result of strong R&D efforts and smart acquisitions. GTAT's product line is about to blossom in the form of Merlin, Hicz, Hyperion, Sapphire production, Silicon Carbide, and so much more.

If you're worried about the partnership with Apple, don't be.
If Apple had changed their mind about the partnership with GTAT, GTAT would have already filed an 8k per SEC regulations. The partnership remains in tact and as strong as ever as witnessed by the continued hiring of new employees at the Mesa factory and Apple's huge demand for sapphire. Apple needs hundreds of millions of sapphire pieces for their IOS devices in the short term in the form of Iwatch screens\parts, home buttons, and camera lenses.

GTAT is going to get paid.
Currently trading at 7x or lower 2016 earnings guidance, GTAT is the best investment around. Don't wait for the Street to let you in on this secret. Currently they are stealing your shares.

  • “Chemically strengthened glass can be excellent, but sapphire is better in terms of hardness, strength, and toughness,” said Matthew Hall, Director of the Center for Advanced Ceramic Technology at the Kazuo Inamori School of Engineering at Alfred University, quoted in Tech Crunch. “The fracture toughness of sapphire should be around 4 times greater than Gorilla Glass – about 3 MPa-m0.5 versus 0.7 MPa-m0.5, respectively.”

Here is a quote from the MIT Review:
"To prevent a gadget’s screen from cracking, you need to do two things, according to Robert Ritchie, a professor at the University of California, Berkeley, who studies the failure mechanisms of materials. First, you need be careful to avoid defects that might allow scratches, because these can lead to more serious cracks. Second, the overall design needs to absorb the energy of an impact. Sapphire itself isn’t great at this—it’s a brittle material, though slightly more fracture-resistant than glass, Ritchie says. So you need to be clever about how you package it in a phone or a watch, so that the other materials in the device can absorb the energy of an impact."

"If you make sapphire thin enough, and it’s flaw free, you can bend it quite considerably because it has an enormous strength." -Professor Neil Alford of the department of materials at Imperial College, London

All this being said, I got ahead of myself and thought the New Iphone 6 would have a sapphire screen, but certainly not a laminate. That technology wasn't ready yet, and GTAT's Mesa factory wasn't either for that matter. The GTAT factory will not be fully operation until early 2015. Hyperion which is the genius technology that will smash the cost of sapphire screens on phones will be ready in 2015 as well. GTAT could have put sapphire screens on an Iphone, and it certainly would have been better than "ion strengthened glass". But Apple doesn't want to be the first, it wants to be the best, and they will be in 2015 and beyond thanks to GTAT.

  • speak negatively of Margolis all you want, but he took the initiative and had the balls to make a move.
His ethics or morals cannot be questioned as his thesis was as close to the truth as anyone's. I think somewhere along the way in 2014, there was a great chance Apple was going to put Sapphire screens on their IOS devices, but allegedly due to supply constraints and test failures they didn't. Sadly, Apple users will be left with a screen that is WORSE than the Iphone 5 in terms of breakage. Had Apple gone with Sapphire screens this early in the game, and I think they almost did, then Matt would be legendary. His analysis is as god as anyone's I've seen. Those of you playing Monday morning QB, didn't generate a following because your analysis was not thorough or well thought out. Had Apple gone with sapphire screens in 2014, GTAT would be well on it's way to his price targets. In the stock market lots of things have to fall into line for companies to really take hold, exceed their guidance, and take advantage of their opportunities.

The nature of this business is that there are no certainties.

Thank you Matt for offering your help to others.
GTAT could still easily knock our socks off.

Even more likely? That's not a fact.
It's the microfractures or scratches that cause the integrity of the glass\sapphire to crack, and we all know that GG is more susceptible to scratching.

Scratch resistance is extremely important and only sapphire can achieve these results.

  • Those phones are INCNREDIBLEY fragile. Wow.
Did we confirm Corning made them? That is unacceptable.
The only reason that Apple would have gone the direction of whatever material is on those Iphones is because GTAT was not fully ramped up to supply enough sapphire glass to Apple.
For them to have chosen that glass over sapphire is a travesty, but it ASSURES me that Apple will not stop their intentions to use sapphire crystal to protect all of it's IOS device screens.

Panic all you want at all the misinformation and FUD, but ultimately GTAT remains the investment of the DECADE.

Very possible.. meant to give you thumbs up but accidentally gave you the opposite.
The people wanted stronger more durable screens... I think people like me are turned off at the idea of buying the same old Iphone. I wanted durability without a case on the phone. It could still happen within the next 12 months on the refresh.
