If David picked up 2 apples at the first tree and 5 apples at the second tree and 1 apple at the third tree how many does he have to take home.

Special question for Hawcreek so he doesn't get discouraged.

I always concluded that you didn't know the difference between weather and climate.
Thanks for verifying.

An oldie but a goodie.

Given a matrix with 8 rows and 3 columns and a vector of 8 rows long, how do you find the vector in the range space of the matrix that is nearest to the other vector.

This is a reellllllyyyy important question for applied mathematics.. If you consider yourself a scientist you must be able to answer.

flipping a fair coin 1000 times and recording heads as 1 and tails as -1 what value will be nearest to the actual experiment in the least mean square sense over the ensemble of possible outcomes.

cfuryurself by cfuryurself Feb 22, 2014 8:20 PM Flag

given a series of measurements of a constant value that is corrupted by white Gaussian noise and measured by a device providing readings that are reliable to 2 digits how many 'implied' digits are there in the average of 100 such readings.

What is the probability that a single reading will be outside the accuracy of the 'implied' digits.

All depends on how long you view the delay between cause and effect.
When it comes to Reagan you RWNJ use the delay that claims the Clinton years were due to Reagan, a gap of 3-6 yrs. Now with Obama the same gap does not fit your Agenda. Even though the economy was beginning to nose dive before Obama took office you claim boosh was good and O bad for the economy.

These inconsistencies arise from emotional thinking among RWNJ. It just feels right to them and that is all the proof they need. Toooooo funny.

Yeah like corporate America and it's ownership of our government.

""Don't mind me, I just hate it when people use pretentious verbiage with no discernible meaning""

NO, you hate it that you didn't think of it first. The very first thing that came to my mind when reading this was of a pot calling out a kettle.

Found this on the internets.

""Significant digits carry with them an implied precision of ±1/ 2 unit in the rightmost significant digit"

""The rules of thumb of implied precision (significant figures) are an approximation to the rules of error propagation""

So there ya have it. How many digits are implied as significant in the original question.

One would hope the response quantifies 'implied' digits. If you read the question that is what is being asked.
Of course 'implied' digits must carry information right ??

Will consider the question of how to determine the number of "implied" digits one can add when an average of a single data point is constructed given a situation where the error is entirely determined to be additive white gaussian noise with a given variance.
So for averaging N values how many 'implied' digits can be added.
Note: Only a select number of 'scientists' are expected to provide answers, although all are welcome.
