    They hated it at $11

I am out at 19.06, got in under 12 when TheStreetCom put multiple strong sells ratings. The management is great for the New BBY, and turn around story is sound. However, easy money part is done when street analysis put out BUY signals. Maybe it will be stuck ~around $20 until next big earning score card is out. Good luck all.

Please explain the premium part, if I buy 1 share VXX at today's price 22.16usd, besides trading cost, what else cost is involved. Thanks.

    Sentiment: Buy

  • With S&P near record high and VXX near record low. I am tempted to buy some VXX for Insurance, but I have never traded VXX before, and need some cool headed experts on some advice.
    1. Is VXX stock like for options like, can I buy and hold forever until for example it went up and then sell it.
    2. VXX has come down from 400 in 2009 to 20 in 2013, however, I can argue that if I buy VXX today with limited downside (go to zero maybe), but have a shot to 400 historic volatility with 20X return potential. Is this true and any validity in this logic.

    many thanks in advance.

China to require FTTH for new homes

ALU looks very attractive as a value play, but the company still has problems vs other competitors. It might return higher than GLW but also carries a bigger risk.
With FTTH being mandatory, Corning's bend insensitive fiber might benefit since they are usually used in FTTH premises. With China leading the way in FTTH, Google fiber experimenting, fiber usage should pick up. In addition, wireless backhaul will be another growth area for fiber.
I am long on GLW since this is a stock I can forget.

    Sentiment: Buy

  • China Daily reports that a new policy from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will mandate that all new residences have a fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) connection where such broadband access networks are available. The policy, which goes into effect April 1 of this year, also calls for operators to provide equal subscriber access to competitive service providers.

The China Daily story cites another report from Economic Information Daily that the Chinese government hopes to have 40 million families connected to fiber-optic networks by 2015.

Several carriers in the country have embarked on ambitious FTTH expansion projects (see, for example, "Alcatel-Lucent to expand broadband FTTH network for China Telecom"). The Economic Information Daily story pointed to China Unicom (Hong Kong) Ltd., as an example. That carrier, the nation's second largest telecom by subscriber count, added 10 million families to its FTTH roster in 2012, the paper reported.

And no, I’m not totally nuts.

But face it: We’re all guilty of using Best Buy as a showroom for Amazon or other online stores.

    The solution: Buy the showrooms.
