Paul Krugman in the NYTimes:
I can't resist pointing out that the Bush administration's response to the squeeze on working families has been, you guessed it, to accuse the news media of biased reporting.
On May 10 the White House issued a press release titled "Setting the Record Straight: The New York Times Continues to Ignore America's Economic Progress." The release attacked The Times for asserting that paychecks weren't keeping up with fixed costs like medical care and gasoline. The White House declared, "But average hourly earnings have risen 3.8 percent over the past 12 months, their largest increase in nearly five years."
On Wednesday John Snow repeated that boast before a House committee. However, Representative Barney Frank was ready. He asked whether the number was adjusted for inflation; after flailing about, Mr. Snow admitted, sheepishly, that it wasn't. In fact, nearly all of the wage increase was negated by higher prices.
We need all these additional laborers and they more than earn what they are paid. Without them labor costs will go up, inflation will go up, and interest rates will go up, and all that will send the stock market DOWN. They were never a burning issue until that fascist in Wisconsin stokes the fires about them. Now the US will be engaged in the silly exercise of imitating Israel cowering in fear of invasion behind a wall. Talk about disgusting. More than disgusting. And if you are worried about their not being citizens, then make them citizens. Nothing could be easier.
You haven't the slightest idea about me, but your projection of your own onto me is very interesting. Tell us more about your relationship to your mother.
Have to add that if you are over 21 and haven't gotten around to sodomy yet, you are a retard. Half of life's pleasures have passed you by. Sad.
"I'm not 35 yet."
And your brain isn't even ten. I don't think sodomy is "funny"; but practitioners think it is fun; you think it is evil because you are full of prejudices and hang ups and taboos and all the stuff that
I think you are mistaken. Lots of dicks go into asshooles, both male and female. There is even a special word just for that:sodomy. You just never learned the facts of life, little boy. Did Mama keep you in the house until you were 35?
For as long as Ive known him, Bush has liked to muse aloud about his theory of political capital. His dads mistake, he told me more than once, was to have not spent the vast political capital he accumulated in 1991 as the liberator of Kuwaita failure that led, in his sons mind, to Bill Clintons victory in 1992.
After the attacks on 9/11, after the successful (and globally popular) obliteration of the Taliban in Afghanistan, and after the midterm congressional elections of 2002, President Bush was sitting in the White House with a colossal pile of military, diplomatic and political capital in front of him. And then he pushed the entire pile to the middle of the poker table and bet it all on his predetermined decision to invade Iraq. I said at the time and still believe that it was one of the most momentous decisions any president had ever made.
Now, and largely as a consequence, Bush finds himself bereft of political capital at precisely the moment when he (and the rest of the world) needs it most. To use his fathers terms (from his 1989 inaugural address), we have neither the will nor the wallet to take care of business in and with the bullies in Iran.
I wonder why some people think saying "you are gay" is a refutation for every and anything. Some disconnect, I would suspect. Some mental link missing. Now if you can cite research showing gays have IQs far below normal, it might make some sense, but........do you?
Obviously the US has NO IDEA at all if Iran is pursuing nukes. It simply SAYS it is, but the International Atomic Inspection agency says there is no evidence that it is. This is again an Iraq WMD situation. Bush CLAIMS things that he doesn't know for certain AT ALL. He just makes up things and then hunts for "intelligence" to justify it. And if he can't find it, he makes it up. Haven't we been through all this before????
on John Fund (resident pundit of Wall St. Journal) who is about as far right as one can get:
You wrote last week that there are many poor, bright students -- American and foreign alike -- who would jump at the opportunity to attend Yale. Why should Mr. Rahmatullah go to the head of the line? Thats a question Yale alumni should ask when their alma mater comes looking for contributions. But if its individual merit and national security we should weigh, why not ask why George W. Bush, Yale 68, and Dick Cheney, Yale dropout 61, got to the head of the line at Yale, whose offerings were wasted on both of them?
Bush said openly that he didnt learn a thing at Yale, and I can testify that he didnt try, having taken several of the same courses with him and lived in the same Yale residential college with him for two years. If ever a Yale education was wasted on someone whose ignorance and insecurity made him a serious national security risk, it was wasted on Bush, who, like Cheney, became a draft-dodger -- as defined by every conservative since 1965. When Yale gave Bush an honorary doctorate three months before 9/11, maybe you should have written an outraged column about our way of elevating the ignorant and impassioned.
John Fund is a POS who occasionally appears on TV news shows. I quote the piece for the info re Bush and Cheney and someone who knew Bush personally at Yale. "Didn't learn a thing." Not at Yale, and nowhere else either.
"alternate fuels" like (you name them). We have been through all this before and nothing significant ever happens. The price of gas just keeps going up and the only thing that stops it is a deep deep recession. This one will be a doozy. Gas prices drive families with no savings over the edge, they can't make mortgage payments, lose house---I would not be surprised to see rioting in the streets of big cities. Summer will be HOT and interesting. LMAO
Screwup. That is what he is, in essence. President Screwup. And it is even better when he comes out and claims he would repeat his mistakes like the invasion of Iraq. As the British comic routine had it:
Q. Have you learned from your mistakes?
A. Oh very definitely. I am now able to repeat them exactly.
their vacations in Ft. Lauderdale where these things don't happen. LOL
If he had a brain he couldn't possibly say this, but since he doesn't I guess it makes sense:
Forever the Ziodupe; forever the stupid warmonger. I do hope and trust that he will have the worst reputation of any President in US history. I am quite sure he will.
Well the only problem is that they have enough workers, while the US doesn't. We employ the Mexicans at once, while I doubt you could get a job washing dishes in Mexico.
