I have a relative who works for JNJ (in M&A). He leads a team of about 25 people or so (minimum). they are pretty high up. I talked to him about 5 years ago when I worked for a small biotech/pharma want a be. We had about 10 drugs that we shopped around and we talked about what he did in getting drugs and companies for JNJ. He said he himself doesn't get involved under 200MM (said they spend more than that on toilet paper for a year and it's chump change). Anything higher, his whole team gets involved. BTW, he sent in team my company and walked. Years later we met again at a wedding and he said they were trash. He was right. They were trash and we went down in flames. The company is defunct now and no compound worked. We did get big pharma money from 5 firms and they all lost it on our trials. So, if JNJ got into this company, there is something there. I wish I didn't have so much in ARIA but I think that one has merit. Good luck.
he still owns it. was just on cnbc and talked about owning rig. he's buying other energy companies (and XRX). wish he bought more here in rig and took us private at say 35!!!!!
you have to understand that MRK is huge and ACHN is so tiny. It's like comparing a mosquito to a 747 plane. ACHN doesn't have resources to compete. When I was in my small biotech that went bust, some analyst said it was like we were in the indy 500 and had a go cart to drive. The guys in the lab took it one step further and said the go cart didn't have wheels, engine, transmission, and steering wheel. Otherwise, it was a go cart.
on cnbc talked BIIB a few days ago (last week). one said buy for 2016 and the other said BIIB will falter and drop big time due to failed trials etc... I listened to the 2nd guy and didn't buy at 300 a share. stupid me. Stupid guy also.
I might put a stop loss in too at 20 and sell what I have. Only 2000 shares in the upper 30's average I think. I'll take a 50% haircut to get some money back. Will wait till it trades again to place the order.
anything can happen. usually when a buyout occurs, new hires is the last thing that's done. most companies take all IP and take things over. If they leave it as a free standing subsidiary (like MRK did of symbia in California), they do bring in a few key people to run things. Why would JNJ buyout ACHN if they have control of the HCV drugs??? they milk them for all it's worth. ACHN might just get 15-20% royalty and JNJ the rest. That gives ACHN money and time to get something else on the market. If the drug is good and JNJ doesn't want to pay all those royalties, they buyout the firm and either transfer people or lay them off. Let's just get great data out and go from there 1st.
I don't see why today is so important. the biotech sector is tanking big time taking achn with it. we need news. I think nobody outside knows yet of the results.
it happened man. We had 40-50 companies visit us for our compounds. Only about 5-6 gave us money (companies). We had about 10 investors pony up lots of money. They all lost out after 20 years of nothing that worked. Doors have been shut quite a while now. JNJ walked and told us we had nothing. They also said our lead drug didn't work looking after looking at the data. They were right. Another competitor beat ours in head to head trials on 5 of the 6 metrics. I am not making this up. We made like 25,000 compounds over the years. Nothing worked.
patents don't mean sheet. we need drugs that work. companies patent anything and everything that looks like a possible hit. only until it's a drug, does it matter so who cares if they got another patent.
so we have to hold/wait till end of march/early april before we have a chance to go over 7 again? Man, my timing is always off. I go in oil and get crushed. Sell gold and it goes through the roof. Go in pharma and the candidates kill the biotechs. I can't catch a break. I need to make some losses up and get moving again. Just want to be in achn and see the ticker go across the screen in the morning at 17 or higher.
guess we're down today due to MRK's approval in HCV, GILD bs with the CEO/pricing of mrk drug and downgrade from leewink sheet. What I'm worried about it that by the time ACHN comes out with data, all HCV will be eliminated and there won't be a need for ACHN's drug. Guess JNJ thought of this and still went forward. Wish they'd post the great numbers and let us rise $10 a share asap.
I was in bxlt big. had a sell in at 33.25 for 1/2 of the shares. then it was halted at 34.85 and my shares were gone. ouch. sold the rest at 35.5
it's "sell" not sale. but I heard some rumor that he'll get enough support from friends/family and run the company from jail. They have drugs and employees and this will turn back up. I just wish they will open the stock so I can buy 2K more shares at say 11 to 13 and average down for the run to the 40's again. It's not fair to the stockholders to keep this frozen. We need to either sell, buy or hold but don't just keep it shut down.
a 32 year old CEO with his background can run this company? geez, look at the pic of him with the others and the car. He's more into a skateboard company than a biotech. About 95% of biotech start ups fail. Where do you think this one will go?
