  • From Motley Fool yesterday: "Seadrill (NYSE: SDRL ) has been able to capture market share from its competitors in the floating-rig market during this recent downturn. What some may have not noticed, though, is that it is doing the same in the jackup market as well. The company recently signed $300 million in contracts for its jackup fleet for over two years of service." With a now 11% Dividend, SDRL could go to Zero and you will break even in 10 years. Of course, with SDRL's 20 Billion in back-log orders for the next 5 years, they are not going to go down to Zero. I understand these are trying times - but if you'll at least have a time-horizon of a couple of years, you can look back at 2014 and laugh.

From Motley Fool today: "It's true that members of Big Oil are cutting capital expenditures as a result of unspectacular returns from new drilling projects. But investors would be making a short-sighted error not viewing Seadrill for what it is, which is a highly profitable company with a bright long-term future." Now I feel better.

    Sentiment: Strong Buy

  • From Seeking Alpha - "In conclusion, the share price of Seadrill is overly penalized as the company's strong fundamentals should ensure dividend safety amid the industry downturn. As the current valuation is cheap on both relative and absolute basis, investors are recommended to start accumulating shares." I'm not sure what's going on. Fortunently, I'm a long-term Investor to 2020. But I can understood the current anxiety as the Stock Market can be irrational at times.

The ABSOLUTE LOWEST Price Target from anyone is 43 dollars a Share. And thats for 2015. Its
highly possible we will have a 70 to 80 dollar Share Price in 2020.

Most of the Companies currently contracted out to SDRL for 2014 have options to extend their Contract with SDRL to 2015. Going one year at a time is how many companies contract out. Its a red herring to compare a future year to a current year.

From MF today: "Seadrill Secures New Contracts for Jack-Up Rigs Despite Market Slowdown."
Need we say more ! Folks - Hold onto your SDRL Shares at least to 2020 when they reach 70 to 80 dollars a Share. Rigs are 92% contracted for the rest of 2014 and although they are only 64% contracted for 2015 - a lot of the 2014 customers have options for extensions in 2015. 20 Billion dollars in backlog in orders thru 2019. Third world countries are only going to get thirstier for Oil as they develop. I'm sitting back - enjoying and reinvesting the 10% Dividends and laughing at all the Short-Term Thinkers who get uptight over the current slowdown in the Rig business.

    Day Rates / Profitability

Bill Gates and Warren Buffet predict that by 2040 - all the countries of the world will be
similar to Europe, China and North America. All these developing countries need OIL !
fracking/shale just isin't going to do it. I'm not just looking to 2020 - I'm looking to 2040.

    Sentiment: Strong Buy

  • chuck37chuck by chuck37chuck Mar 18, 2014 9:46 AM Flag

According to Motley Fool: If SDRL only received 267,000 dollars a Day for the use of their new modern Rigs, they would still be a profitable company. Rates are currently 575,000 a day and some analysts are predicting they could go down to 475,000 a day with increased competition. However, as noted by MF, Seadrills current Rates are locked in until 2017 and their Fleet is less than 5 years old versus 20 years old for their nearest competitors RIG and ENSCO. That means less maintenance and more time earning money for SDRL's Rigs. The Bottom Line - Buy SDRL stock when it dips like it has been the past couple of months. 2014 will soon be a memory and the Investors who buy now will be all smiles from 2015 to 2020.

"speculated that the pause to drilling growth is needed for crews and suppliers to catch up with demand in order to refresh the market. Seadrill actually predicts the pause is greater undersupply of rigs by 2016.
Seadrill is a leading deepwater driller with a focus on aggressively building out new rigs for what it forecasts as a major undersupply in rigs by 2020."

    Sentiment: Strong Buy

  • From Motley Fool: "Seadrill: Opportunity lies ahead
Seadrill management is confident that the near-term dip in Big Oil capital expenditures is a momentary pause and not a cyclical downturn, driven by the fact that the trimmed spending is not due to a collapse in oil prices. The market is clearly worried that Seadrill's customers will suspend or cancel orders. While it's true that Seadrill has seen some pause in 2014 orders, these orders are simply being pushed to the following year rather than canceled entirely. That's what gives Seadrill management confidence to increase its dividend and provide a double-digit yield. Signs abound that Seadrill's hiccups are short-term, and that the long-term opportunity remains strong."
