theflyonthewall eBay repatriated cash likely to be used for M&A, says Piper Jaffray
Piper Jaffray believes a large part of the $9B in cash eBay expects to repatriate to the U.S. will be used for acquisitions in the payments space. The cash, equating to $6B net of taxes, could help eBay take advantage of the shift to mobile payments, the firm says. Piper lists Square, VeriFone (PAY), iZettle and Corduro as companies in the payment space that are within acquisition range for eBay. The firm has an Overweight rating on eBay with a $63 price target.

"I have felt that VeriFone (PAY), if it ever got its act together, could be a logical fit for anyone trying to establish dominance at the retail register. That time has come and Verifone stands right in the middle of an important upgrade cycle for electronic payments that has been shown to stop fraud rather dramatically. All the major credit companies are behind EMV, the embedded chip system, and a survey by NXP Semiconductors (NXPI) released last week shows that the consumer is at last ready for them both and the bank and the retail level. As long as Verifone had some accounting issues it was pretty much out of the question to be able to buy this company. That's no longer the case. Seventy percent of all U.S. credit cards should have this technology by 2015. I think Verifone is in the sweet spot because of its knowledge of EMV technology

Remember, I like to win both ways, fundamentals and takeovers."

'Smart Biotech Hedge Fund Worth Watching Had Therapeutics MD Before Pop'
Bryan Rich Bryan Rich , Contributor

Biotech stock Therapeutics MD (TXMD) was up 32.5% on Tuesday, lifted by brokerage house FBR Capital initiating coverage with an incredible $34 price target. Based on TXMD’s Tuesday closing price of $5.47, the FBR price target would mean a 600% return.

TXMD is owned by the billion-dollar biotech hedge fund RA Capital Management. RA is experienced in the business of biotech investing, and owns more than 6% of TXMD.

RA is one of our favorite hedge funds to piggyback. It’s run by Peter Kolchinsky, a PhD from Harvard. The fund has one of the best track records in the world, averaging 41% a year since 2002.

There is no secondary coming. They have plenty of cash. My news service made a mistake and they corrected it. FBR does not underwrite secondaries anyway. We are good to go :)

I posted an error that there was a secondary looming yesterday. My news service reported there was one, but they removed it because they were wrong. I am setting the record straight. TXMD is not going to do a secondary. They have plenty of cash. you see a lot of people on this message board picked up on my post yesterday and are spreading this rumor..

I spoke to Investor Relations at TXMD last night too. They assured me there is NO FILING. He thanked me for bringing Briefing's mistake to his attention, since others had asked about it!...so sorry!

TXMD does not have a filing out there!! Briefing made a mistake on that filing..they pulled the June 9th story about it after I asked them if it was really TXMD that filed that offering..

I told then in a feed back that i could not find it on TXMD's news, or on The Fly on the Wall or anywhere else. Apparently I put my email address in the feed back incorrectly....i can't type. I called them and got upset that they didn't answer me and that they just pulled the news (I would have bought TXMD back)....They said it was because I didn't put in my email address correctly.

I called them and they sent me the response they tried to send out yesterday

  • TXMD TherapeuticsMD (TXMD ) initiated with a Outperform at FBR Capital; tgt $34. Firm believes co is well positioned to change the manner in which women are treated with hormone replacement therapy. They believe the drug could be the only bio-identical hormone formulation approved by the FDA, and new drug compounding regulations may permit the capture of disproportionate market share. They also believe it is reasonable that TherapeuticsMD could establish a sales and marketing presence adequate to market the HRT products, but they are mindful that the size of the commercial opportunity may attract interest from other biopharma companies seeking exposure to a therapeutic space that could experience re-growth.

Leak points to sapphire screen for 4.7" iPhone 6

A newly posted YouTube video supposedly shows the screen that will be used in Apple's (AAPL) upcoming 4.7" iPhone 6 and claims that the part confirms that the smaller new model will have a sapphire display, not Gorilla Glass from Corning (GLW). The video adds that the existence of the part dispels rumors that only the larger, 5.5" iPhone 6 would feature a sapphire display. Note that Apple has a sapphire contract with GT Advanced Technologies (GTAT).

GasLog growth potential unchanged after Teekay, BG deal, says Citigroup

Citigroup attributes yesterday's sell-off in shares of GasLog (GLOG) to concerns that the Teekay LNG Partners (TGP), BG Group (BRGYY) transaction would impact the company's growth potential. Citi says the growth of LNG shipping is "much larger" than the four vessel deal announced Monday, and that it didn't think GasLog had a monopoly on BG's business. The firm reiterates a Buy rating on GasLog with a $35 price target.

  • DWA on Seeking Alpha the editor that writes up the transcript for Cramer's show is very good. She quotes him word for word...I don't why the discrepancy from Cramer's transcript...he changes his to reflect what he wished he said though, so maybe it's more credible, because he'll say it that way next time...i don't know.

On SA what he said about DWA was not what his transcript said.

She says nothing about doing work on it etc...gives me enough pause . I am not reading that as very bullish....hmmmmm

  • "Noble Corp. (NE) is an offshore drilling contractor (not to be confused with Noble Energy (NBL)). Noble Corp. has a market cap of $8.4 billion. In the third quarter of 2014, it will spin off its subsidiary Paragon Offshore, which will include a majority of Noble's "standard spec" fleet of drilling rigs while Noble's high spec rigs remain with the parent. Paragon Offshore will consist of 34 jackups and 8 floaters. It will also pay a dividend to shareholders. Interestingly, Noble Corp. today yields 4.4%. Paragon has already arranged for its own financing. Oddly, Noble shares are trading lower, not higher. The stock fetches about $33, valuing the company at less than 10x trailing earnings. Once the spinoff is complete, the sum of the parts could exceed the stock price today. "

  • Industrial Stocks for the Second Half

    Stock quotes in this article:
    IP, MTZ, BA, AA, TBT

In Monday's column, we discussed some of the stocks and sectors that outperformed the overall market in the first half of the year, and why it was time to lighten up on some of them. On the first trading day of the second half of the year we will talk about some sectors and stocks that have underperformed in the first six months of 2014 but should have better stories and performance in the back of the year.

I have recently covered the under performing retailing sector and some beaten-up plays there, so I will not rehash the outlook for that part of the market. Today we will look at some industrial stocks. The sector has slightly underperformed the S&P 500 in the first half of 2014 but with global economic growth accelerating in the second half of the year, should outperform going forward.

I continue to like Mastec (MTZ), which should benefit from increasing demand from the oil & gas and power producing areas of the economy. I also like its purchase yesterday of a Canadian infrastructure play that increases its exposure to the growing demand from the energy sector in fast-growing producer Canada. The shares go for approximately 12X next year's expected earnings.

So that is my outlook to start the second half of the year. I will be more than satisfied if the S&P 500 returns the same 6% it did in the first half. Happy Hunting.
