    Wabush

Also "in discussion" with "other stakeholders" regarding possible "rationalization"...
I think the question(s) now become:
    1. (If I heard correctly) CLF needs to fork-out a couple mil a year to hold their Wabush "rights".
    2. Will any buyer of MFC's holdings be willing to gamble that CLF won't maintain any "rights" OR would any buyer be willing to settle for a few mil a year from CLF as a "reasonable return" for whatever bucks they might hand-over to MFC for MFC's position while they wait for CLF to either re-start operations or walk-away.
I think that there's a pretty good chance that Wabush will soon be referred to in the past tense as far as MFC is concerned and I wouldn't be surprised if some deal concerning Pea Ridge might be part of any rationalization package.
The Conference Call was a little too brief in my opinion, but I think there's A LOT happening that's about to put some serious cash on MFC's bottom line...Assuming that 2014 doesn't come unglued, I think that Bill-and-a-half number for "revenues" could wind-up being a bit on the low side.

Offhand, I'd speculate that few are expecting a whole lot out of the "earning's announcement" Monday.
Personally, I'm thinkin' that the numbers are gonna be pretty darned good. I also am thinkin' that there'll be some signifant announcements related to the "new" structure and acquisitions that will have a pretty positive effect on the price of the shares. I'm gonna pile a few more bucks into MFC before the announcement(s)...Not sure where I can park the shares yet, but I figure my worst case downside is a buck or so and I think my upside is a whole lot more than that...a whole lot more. Kellogg's increased involvement should begin to present itself at this meeting and he's got A LOT of "friends".
MJS created one heckava vehicle with the "new" MFC and I do believe that increased shareholder value is about to be realized by more "new" investors.
Yep! I'm pretty darned optomistic at this point.

    Conjecture and Speculation...

I think your point on stock options is valid. As for Michael "looking over" any new CEO's shoulder...I would proffer that the empire that Michael et al have built could use "some" looking over...I do believe that the empire has become larger than one-man can oversee and splitting the roles should prove beneficial for all involved. As to any "new" CEO...I would hope that prime considerstion is given to Rene Randall. His background for this position is stellar and his knowledge of the company is second-to-none. His previous (pre-MFC) background makes him a prime candidate to pick-up the varied pieces and take this Billion Dollar Behemoth to the next level. He has been an excellent, unwavering steward of MFC's interests.

Personally, I think we're seeing the beginnings of an undertaking to take the company private in the next year or so.
Along with the sale of certain assets as the company begins buybacks in the open market, I'd be willing (as a matter of fact, I am) to put money on a tender offer sometime betwen now and this time next year.
I really hate to see Michael step-aside, but I think Kellogg's probably more "right" to bring shareholder value to the surface at this point in time...if nothing else, I think we're gonna see a more active stock and a better realization of MFC's assets.

    1. I'd be willing to bet that there's more than a reasonable chance that the 4th Quarter "earnings" could be a pretty big surprise...to the upside.
    2. I'm gonna guess that we aren't gonna miss-out on any dividends this year...matter of fact, I'd be willing to wager that any "dividend" annoucement could be larger than last year's pay-out.
    3. I think we're getting close to a "pre-earnings annoucement run". How far could it go? I'd say higher than most folks might expect. Remember: Mikey and Petey are now, both, on the same page and the same team regardless of how they got there...and neither one should be underestimated where serious bucks are concerned.
    4. First Quarter is almost done...I'd say there could be some wonderful "news" that might materialize in this or the next Quarter...Remember; MFC's still got a boatload of cash to deploy and last year's acquisitions are just getting-up to full potential for adding to the bottom line.
All-in-All: I'm pretty darn optomistic on the upcoming earnings report and business updates.

I was kinda thinkin' that the Olympics might bring some notariety to Russian investments...All we've seen so far, is a little minor notice...Still of the opinion that SBRCY is the place to be if you want to own Russia...We're parked in it for the doo-ration.

14th could be more than Valentine's Day...
There's 2 (Two) Questions that need to be answered around that date when earnings should be reported for last Fiscal Year and 4th Quarter...
Here's an excerpt from last October 4th News Release regarding the final dividend payment for 2013:
"The payment is the final installment of the 2013 cash dividend of $0.24 per common share declared by the Company on January 14, 2013. The declaration, timing and payment of future dividends will depend on, among other things, the Company's financial results."
With no announcement to date of any dividend for 2014, I think we need to assume several things:
    1. If there is to be a dividend, it will be announced with the earnings report for last year.
    2. If there is to be no dividend, I think we're due for a lot of pain.
The stock's current pricing action would tend to make one think that any upcoming "news" on the earning's front ain't looking too hopeful in my most humble of opinions.
