Remember that old saw about the CONsumer being 70% of the eCONomy? Ain't gunna happen when a record number of folks are on food stamps. In most states, one can't qualify for food stamps if the have a modicum of resources, unless they have bred out like the only cow in a bull pen.
Fascinating that my sister, who is childless, and 50 years old, and unemployed, told me that the state of North Carolina UI person she spoke with told her to "sign up for food stamps".
Tells me that either my sister isn't employable, or the state of North Carolina endorses food stamps as a venue to feed the unemployed. That all sounds so helpful, but she doesn't qualify, due to having some financial resources. Ordinary folks used to save for a "rainy day". Either my sister didn't explain her complete financial situation, or the employee didn't ask the full spectrum of questions, before spewing advice about being on the dole.
